Golden State Warriors Sign Former Top 10 Pick For The Rest Of The Season

Golden State Warriors Kevin Knox

The Golden State Warriors are looking to make another push for an NBA championship. Since they made the trade for Jimmy Butler, the team has been on fire, winning 14 of their last 16 games. They sit sixth in the Western Conference but have a slew of teams chasing them to stay out of the play-in games. Their chances took a hit when star point guard Steph Curry went down with an injury this week. While there is no structural damage, the team will have to figure out how to win games without the former MVP. They made an upgrade to the roster, signing former top-ten pick Kevin Knox to a deal for the rest of the year.

Golden State Warriors Sign Kevin Knox

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the Golden State Warriors are signing Kevin Knox for the rest of the season. Knox was the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He has bounced around the league, being a trade chip in many situations, as he hasn’t lived up to the pick. The former Kentucky Wildcat has played seven games with the Warriors this season, averaging 4.0 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Head coach Steve Kerr loves to play a large rotation, so Knox may carve out a spot depending on injuries.

This is likely a depth signing for the team. The talent is definitely there, and the Golden State Warriors have shown they can get the most out of players. Furthermore, the team may start to rest some of their key veterans as the season begins to wind down. Curry and Draymond Green are not spring chickens, and the team would rather have them healthy for the playoffs. Can they hold off the rest of the teams in the West?

The Race For The 6-Seed

Unless something drastic happens, it is a three-team race for the sixth spot in the Western Conference. The Golden State Warriors will have to hold off the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Clippers, who sit one game back. Minnesota has been on a tear now that all their players are back from injury, winning eight of their last ten. The Clippers are also scorching hot. They are on a five-game winning streak and have also won eight of their last ten.

Holding off both teams with Curry out will be a tall task. Still, Butler has shown he can be the alpha on a team, and they hope their depth can win some games down the stretch. Oklahoma City has been the clear number-one seed all year, but the rest of the conference feels wide open. Curry, Green, and Butler have plenty of playoff experience, and if they get hot, they could surprise some teams in the West.
