Godoy Cruz and Sarmiento will face each other in a Day 13 match of the first phase in the Argentine Primera Division.
Godoy Cruz is coming off a 2-1 victory against Platense. Hernan Lopez and Mariano Nicolas Santiago each found the back of the net. Roberto Ramirez will be unavailable, as he picked up a red card in that fixture.
Conversely, it has been a week since Sarmiento played, however, they suffered a 1-0 defeat. Lisandro Lopez couldn’t get in a rhythm as the striker was subbed off at the half. Facundo Ferreyra couldn’t do much better as his shots left the team goalless.
Do you see the visitors able to at least gain a point today after having over a week to recover and prepare?
Godoy Cruz vs. Sarmiento Preview
Godoy Cruz
The home team is sitting strong in the table standings at the moment. With 26 points and a three-point cushion over second-place Lanus, they are certain to advance to the next round at this rate. They have a +10 goal difference. But this isn’t coming from being offensive masterminds. Instead, their defense is strong, as they do an excellent job of limiting chances and rarely concede. By only allowing a competition low five goals, it will take something special to score on Godoy Cruz.
Tomas Badaloni and Tomas Conechny are leading the way this year with four goals each. The aforementioned Santiago scored his first in his last game and hopes to make it two in a row.
Sarmiento
The visitors are largely struggling and there isn’t much room for hope in terms of advancing. They sit in 13th and are 13 points back of the needed fourth spot to advance. Unfortunately, they are struggling to much of anything positive together as they have nine losses in 12 matchups.
Sarmiento will see Fernando Monetti in net, and he is likely to be busy. Furthermore, in 12 starts he has recorded three clean sheets. Furthermore, Monetti has made 30 saves compared to allowing 17 goals against. Therefore, if a point is to be won today against Godoy Cruz. A lot will fall on his shoulders.
