Girona will aim for their first La Liga victory of the season when they host Osasuna at Estadi Montilivi on Thursday. On the other hand, Osasuna will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record, having gathered four points from their initial two games.
Girona was significantly impacted in the 2023-24 La Liga season, finishing third with 81 points and earning their first-ever European qualification. As they prepare for their Champions League debut, Girona faces challenges replicating last season’s success, especially after losing key players like Savinho, Aleix Garcia, Yan Couto, and Artem Dovbyk over the summer.

Despite making 10 new signings to replace those who left, Girona has struggled to start the season strongly. They opened the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Real Betis and then suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the weekend. In their first home game of the season, Girona will aim to deliver the kind of performance that saw them win 15 out of 19 home league games last term. Meanwhile, Osasuna is embarking on a La Liga season without Jagoba Arrasate for the first time since their relegation in 2016-17.
Vicente Moreno has taken over the challenging role of replacing Arrasate, and he is aware of the need for a strong start after a brief and unsuccessful stint at Almeria. Moreno has already improved on his previous performance, with Osasuna drawing against Leganes and securing a 1-0 win over Mallorca, thanks to a goal from Ruben Garcia. Having started his tenure with consecutive home games, Moreno is now preparing for his first away match as Osasuna manager, aiming to secure their first competitive away win against Girona since June 2016.
Team News
Girona will be missing Ricard Artero and Jastin due to ankle and shoulder injuries, with Valery also doubtful after missing the first two matches due to illness. New signing Yaser Asprilla, who recently joined from Watford for €24m (£20.2m), is expected to be included in the squad for Thursday’s game, though he might start on the bench. Bojan Miovski could make his first La Liga start after coming off the bench in Sunday’s match against Atletico Madrid.
Osasuna will likely be without defender Ruben Pena and winger Kike Barja due to muscle and knee injuries respectively. Midfielder Iker Munoz is also sidelined following surgery on a foot injury.
Moreno may make several changes to refresh his squad, with Juan Cruz, Pablo Ibanez, and Moi Gomez among the potential starters.
Girona vs. Osasuna: Probable Starting XI

Osasuna: Herrera; Areso, Catena, Herrando, Cruz; Torro, Ibanez; Gomez, Oroz, Zaragoza; Budimir
