Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, the former coach of Rangers and Feyenoord, has been named as the new manager of Turkish club Besiktas. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking an exciting new chapter in Van Bronckhorst’s coaching career.

“Hello Black Eagles, I am Giovanni Van Bronckhorst and I am coming to Besiktas,” the 49-year-old said in a video posted by Besiktas on X.

The Istanbul club, which finished fifth in the Turkish Super Lig last season, has announced the signing of Giovanni Van Bronckhorst for a contract lasting “2+1 years.” The Dutchman previously served as the coach of Scottish club Rangers, but unfortunately, he was dismissed in 2022 after only a year of coaching at Ibrox.

From 1998 to 2001, the former captain of the Netherlands’ national team played for Rangers and won five trophies, including two league titles. After his stint at Arsenal, he went on to lift the Premier League in 2002. His journey continued at Barcelona, where he won the Champions League in 2006, along with two Liga titles. Also, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst played for the Netherlands and earned 107 caps. He was in the team that team lost in the final of the 2010 World Cup.

He started his career as a coach at Feyenoord Rotterdam, his first and last team as a player. In 2017 he led them to their first league win in 18 years. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst then went to manage Rangers in 2021 after his time in China with Guangzhou. He guided Rangers to the Europa League final, but unfortunately, they lost in a penalty shootout against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

Would Beskitas Still Sign Paul Onuachu?

https://gty.im/2153053471

Besiktas tried to bolster their attack by signing Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu for the next season. However, they were not able to as they felt the big striker was highly-priced. The Turkish outfit sees Onuachu as the player who can help them get back to the top level of competition. The 29-year-old has made a big difference in Turkey, and he was a big reason why Trabzonspor moved up to third place in the league.

Onuachu joined the Turkish team on loan for the season in September 2023, taking the place of Uruguayan player Maxi Gomez, who didn’t do well at the start of the season. He was then sent on loan to Cadiz in Spain. With the arrival of Van Bronckhorst, we are yet to see if Beskitas will still sign the Nigerian forward.
