Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach for the Indian cricket team. The tenure of Rahul Dravid ended with the back-to-back wins of the Indian teams in the T20 World Cup in 2024, after which he was appointed head coach. Gambhir faces his new role as the coaching leader of both the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. This is a big occasion for Gambhir and the Indian cricket team.

Interestingly, KKR will now lose the mentor who was behind their glory story of winning the IPL 2024 after all. According to reports, KKR won the 2024 season of the IPL under the mentorship of a former Indian batsman. Gautam Gambhir. The development will leave KKR looking for a mentor in the 2025 IPL season.

With Gambhir now taking on a new role, KKR is reportedly mulling over arranging or reshuffling their coaching staff for the upcoming season of the IPL. There were reports that assistant coach Abhishek Nayar would link up with Gambhir in the Indian teams as coaching staff. This arrangement means KKR is on its way to looking for a head coach to partner with for the upcoming season.

One of them will be the mentoring role that will be discussed with Jacques Kallis. Kallis shares an enriched history with KKR, having turned up for them as a player and head coach. He was part of the team whose captain was Gambhir, a former player on the team that won the IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

Apart from that, Jacques Kallis was the batting consultant of KKR. Later, he was appointed as the head coach for KKR following the resignation of Trevor Bayliss from this post as the head coach of the England cricket team. Kallis remained head coach until he resigned in 2019, as he led KKR consecutively for four seasons. Finally, Kallis resigned from KKR and joined the South African cricket team as a batting consultant.

Gautam Gambhir: Brand New Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team

With Gautam Gambhir moving into his new role within the Indian cricket establishment, Jacques Kallis might make a comeback into KKR. Kallis does the rounds for the replacement of Gambhir. If Kallis comes back to KKR, then it would be a return for a person who had been an integral part of the franchise’s earlier successes. That will make him a worthy candidate for the mentorship post, coupled with his previous experience with KKR and all his historic achievements that involve this team.

You see, KKR will take time to choose the most suitable mentor, but that’s because a mentor assumes a very leading role in guiding and motivating the team. KKR should learn to make the most of the recent victory in IPL. So, as KKR gears up for the 2025 IPL season, appointing a new mentor will be one of the top priorities. The team would want to be in a winning position and continue because of the great successes that came with leadership from Gautam Gambhir. If Jacques Kallis makes a comeback, that would be just the right way to head in reaching those goals.
