Gautam Gambhir Backs Kohli and Rohit For World Cup 2027

Gambhir

Since being officially appointed on Monday, July 22, head coach Gautam Gambhir has supported Virat Kohli and Rohit, the legends of Indian cricket. Before India’s Sri Lankan tour, the head coach also reflected on the prospects of Kohli as well as Sharma in the one-day internationals and tests. He stressed how they could be of great value in the slated Champions Trophy and the much-anticipated Test series abroad in Australia.

On behalf of the two great players, Kohli and Sharma, Gambhir applauded the agility and achievement these two displayed during the T20 World Cup, although he stated that they should have performed better in the 50-over World Cup. On one aspect, Gautam said,

I think they have shown what they can deliver on the big stage, whether it is the T20 World Cup or the 50-over World Cup. One thing I can be very clear about is that both of those guys still have a lot of cricket left in them.

More to it, the head coach played down the champions trophy and the Australian tour, saying Kohli and Sharma will be more motivated. ‘Still, the Champions Trophy is coming up and a big tour of Australia; that will be sufficient motivation’, he said, and then went on, ‘And then hopefully, if they can stay fit, the 2027 World Cup is also evolving’.

Personal Decisions And Team Contribution

Gambhir admitted that it finally lies in the hands of the players as to how long they should persist. He insisted that the team’s winning is the ultimate goal and that Kohli and Rohit Sharma can still perform much better. It is also largely dependent on the person; external forces do not settle this.

As much as I would like to say, there’s still cricket left in you (Kohli, Sharma). It is their decision. The responsibilities and level of contribution to how effective the team’s performance is going to be depend on individual players. Lastly, it’s the people that matter, and in this case, the use of the word ‘team’ is appropriate because it brings people together.

Analyzing what Virat and Rohit brought to India’s table, they have a lot of cricket. They are still world-class. Any team would want both of them for as long as possible,” Gambhir stated.

To balance their workloads, Kohli decided to step down from the T20I format, while Sharma also decided the same for the T20Is after the recent T20 World Cup held in Barbados. Though they are still part of India’s ODI and Test teams, Gambhir further pointed out that this change would help them work on the two formats and be available for key games.

As far as workload management is concerned, it should be there for someone like Jasprit Bumrah because Rohit and Virat are not playing the T20s, so they should be available for most of the important games. A batter, if he can play good cricket and be in good form, might as well play all the games. Not just for Bumrah, but for most of the bowlers, workload management is important.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have taken Indian cricket to the next level, These two Indian cricket icons became an inspiration to lots of new and grooming players. They try to copy their way of playing to make themselves into top players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In the end, it is included that they will have lots of potential left in them, hoping they will decide things that are better for the team and for India’s cricket.
