Gary Neville speaking on Ten-Hag’s Future at Man United, suspects they’ve already come to a conclusion. This is coming after the loss to Fulham and the inconsistencies facing United with keeping up with top teams. There’s a probability the new board might relieve Ten-Hag of his duties soon amidst struggles and the inability of United to have a clear style of play.
United’s Struggles and Change
Manchester United so far have retrogressed under Ten-Hag compared to their last season’s achievements. Struggling to keep up with top teams in the league, being knocked out of the champion’s league is deemed unacceptable with the high standards required of United. They’re currently 6th on the premier league standings with 8 points adrift from the top 4 after losing at home to Fulham last weekend which reignited doubts and worry from fans, further putting pressure on the Team and Ten-Hag’s future.
Ten-Hag is still contracted till 2025, Neville believes the co-owner Ratcliffe will hold to high standards in making the right calls. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s top priority is to take back United to the top where they belong in world football. This is evident in the current overhauling process at United with the incomings of several top football Directors like Man-city’s Omar Berrada, and Dave Brailsford and a plan to hire Dan Ashworth from Newcastle.
Ten-Hag’s Future At Stake
With the Current Overhauling process going on. Gary Neville believes Ten Hag might not be exempted, as the new board might have already decided. In his statement;
“If you look at the CEO coming in from City and they’re looking to get Dan Ashworth in from Newcastle, they’re going to make a decision quite quickly I think – if not already,” Neville told Monday Night Football.
“I suspect that Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford already know whether they’re going to keep Erik ten Hag as manager next season.
“I can’t believe they’re going to wait until May to make that decision and leave themselves short.
“Where Manchester United have been found out in the last ten years, in recruitment on and off the pitch, is making important decisions too late and not being ahead of the game. I don’t think [Ratcliffe and Co] are going to do that.
“So for me I suspect that they’ve probably come to a conclusion already – it may even be, whether it’s Champions League or not, that they stick with that decision.”
Rio Ferdinand is of the same view as Neville on the future of Ten-Hag. speaking on Vibe with Five show
“It depends how [he finishes the season],” .
“[He could stay] if he runs [the top four] close and they see an upturn in form and an upturn in the environment at the training ground – if they can see something where it’s like, ‘Okay we can see what it looks like going into next season maybe, if we add the right pieces to it as well’.
“Given the structure behind him now it could [change]. A lot of moving parts have to fall into place for him to stay.
“But if they don’t finish the season well and they’re losing games and it looks like the dressing room isn’t a harmonious place…
“And one thing I would say is, I don’t think Jim Ratcliffe and his team are shy of making big decisions.”
Conclusion
We wait to see what the future holds for Erik Ten-Hag and his Men. However, despite his previous success at Ajax, He’s yet to replicate it at United. Would there be improvements in United’s performance and style of play?
