Game four of the 2024-2025 NHL Preseason started with a mile-high city visit from the Golden Knights in the Colorado Avalanche arena. The Vegas Golden Knights roster this evening offered an opportunity for the bench to show off their skills and hopefully secure a spot for the official Golden Knights roster for the nearly-here season. The Colorado Avalanche and Knights traded power play opportunities throughout the first two periods, but Vegas officially polished off the game with a final score of 6-1.
Period One
Game four for the Las Vegas Golden Knights versus the Colorado Avalanche was chaotic. With a cluster of six total penalties from both teams, discipline was missing from the opening period. In the first few minutes of the game, the Golden Knights newcomer Kai Uchacz caught a penalty for hooking. Colorado Avalanche scored quickly off the draw with a man short for the Knights’ line. Four minutes and thirty-four seconds into the first period of game four, Joe Fleming, who also starred in the 2024 Rookie Faceoff, drew a penalty for tripping Miles Wood of the Colorado Avalanche.
Period one only continued to rile up when the Colorado Avalanche pulled four penalties. Three tripping calls with one slashing call sent the Golden Knights to multiple power plays. The Golden Knights took advantage of the power plays, scoring one goal from Tanner Pearson by deflecting Ben Hutton’s shot. The second Golden Knight to score was the young player Brendan Brisson, with the assists of recently signed Mitch McClain and twenty-one-year-old Kai Uchacz.
Period Two
Period two in game four of the Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche continued with Akira Schmid in the net for Vegas. Schmid was busy this period due to Colorado’s increased drive to the offensive zone. Swiftly reversing the offense, Zach Aston-Reese furthered the Vegas lead with a beautiful shot, making the score 3-1. While the Avalanche took the crown for penalties in period one, the Golden Knights drew three penalties in the second. A hooking call on Zach Aston-Reese, another hooking call on Joe Fleming, and an interference call on Pavel Dorofeyev. Although Dorofeyev and Aston-Reese players drew penalties, both Knights have been dominant in game four. The Knights polished off period two with three successful power play kills.
Period Three
Period three of game four presented redemption for earlier penalized Joe Fleming. Making his debut in an NHL game, he scored two minutes into the final period, making the score 4-1. With better puck recovery from the Las Vegas Golden Knights, much of the final period of game four was played in the Colorado Avalanche’s defensive zone. The Knights’ extensive pressure produced another goal from Zach Aston-Reese. The Colorado Avalanche felt no reprieve as another dominant player this preseason, Tanner Laczynski, scored with a bat shot, making the final 6-1 Vegas.
Game Four Review
Game four in the 2024-2025 NHL preseason was a major success for the newer players in the Golden Knights franchise. Although the game was wildly prosperous for the Knights’ preseason record, a notable mention in game four was the abundance of penalties. During the first period, there were six penalties from both clubs and three in the second on Vegas alone. Thankfully, the young team cleaned up their gameplay, pulling no penalties in the third period. The Colorado Avalanche challenged the Golden Knights for the first five minutes of the first period, but for the rest of the game, it was all Vegas. Tanner Laczynski, Tanner Pearson, Zach Aston-Reese, Joe Fleming, and Brendan Brisson were tonight’s goal scorers for Vegas.
