The Chicago Blackhawks were looking for their first Stanley Cup win since 1961, they made the Stanley Cup last before this in 1992, losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Philadelphia Flyers were in their eighth finals appearance, last losing to the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, both teams had a mix of great veterans like Chris Pronger on the Flyers and young stars like Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and others on the Blackhawks.
Series Recap Up To Game 6 of Stanley Cup
The Chicago Blackhawks had home-ice advantage for the series and used that to win game 1 6-5, Ville Leino opened the scoring for the Flyers in the First Period, but Flyers goalie Michael Leighton would be pulled after the second period with the score tied at 5-5, Thomas Kopecky would score the sixth Blackhawks goal in the 3rd period to win the game.
The Blackhawks would win Game 2 as well, taking full advantage of home ice in a score of 2-1, two straight one-goal wins for Chicago, the Blackhawks would open the scoring in the 2nd with a Marian Hossa goal and added another 28 seconds later, the Flyers would make it 2-1 in the third but Antti Niemi would shut the door on Philadelphia.
The Flyers would get their first win of the series in Game 3 at home, in another one-goal game that the Flyers won in overtime, Patrick Kane scored in the third period to give the Blackhawks the lead but the Flyers would tie it right after with another Ville Leino goal, the Flyers crushed the Blackhawks in shots 15-4 in the third and took that momentum into overtime where Claude Giroux scored the game-winning goal, the first Flyers Stanley Cup game win since 1987.
In the first non-one-goal game in the series, the Flyers took the series back to Chicago tied 2-2 after a 5-3 home win, the Flyers were up 4-1 late in the third before the Blackhawks scored two goals to cut it to a one-goal lead, but the Flyers iced it with a Jeff Carter empty netter to finish the game off with five goals.
The Blackhawks blitzed the Flyers for a 3-0 lead in the 1st period of Game 5, once again the Flyers pulled Leighton to put Brian Boucher in the net, the third period started 5-2 Blackhawks, both teams scored two times in the third but the Blackhawks held on to take a 3-2 series lead heading back to Philadelphia.

Both teams traded Powerplay goals in the first period, where Dustin Byfuglien scored to open the scoring, but Scott Hartnell tied it back up. In the second period Daniel Briere of the Flyers gave them a 2-1 lead but Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd each scored putting the Flyers against the ropes heading into the 3rd period.
Facing elimination the Flyers answered back when Scott Hartnell tied the game up at three with a goal, which means we got overtime in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup in Philadelphia.
Chicago Blackhawks Legend Patrick Kane would score the Game Winning Goal in overtime, Kane would celebrate immediately while many were confused about where the puck was, it indeed went in and absolutely broke the Flyers’ hearts at home and gave the Blackhawks their first Stanely Cup win since the 60s, which would start their dynasty of three Stanley Cups in five seasons.
