The report also states that the man at the helm of affairs, the Indian team’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has formally written to the board’s CEO, Amin, stating that he has endorsed the request of the Indian team management to appoint the veteran South African pacer.
Both Gambhir and Morkel have a good working relationship, especially when they were coaching for the Lucknow Super Giants during the IPL. Gambhir was the team’s mentor for two years, and during this period, the team was considered to be tactically wise and appealing.
Despite Gambhir moving from LSG camp back to KKR, Morkel stayed on as the Super Giants’ bowling coach in the IPL 2024 season. It appears to persistently testify to the great professional camaraderie and mutual esteem between Gambhir and Morkel.
When combined, these two entities’ skills and complementarities could potentially lead to the enhancement of the depth and variety of the Indian bowling unit.

Namely, Morne Morkel has impressive credits to his country, South Africa. As a player, he used a successful partnership in bowling with Dale Steyn, played for South Africa in 247 international matches, and secured 544 wickets. His ability to take a team through victories or even clinch crucial individual innings.
What has been impressive about Morkel is the ease with which he moved from representing the South African national team to retiring from international cricket in the 2018–19 season to coaching. The most memorable experience as a coach was his engagement as a Pakistan bowling coach during the ODI World Cup last year.
Morkel, who has closely worked with different bowing units and has a grasp of the contemporary style of the game, is useful for any side. His technical knowledge and the ability to train the younger bowlers can prove beneficial in taking Indian pace bowling to another level.

If at all appointed, the inclusion of Morkel in the coaching staff of Indian cricket can bring about some drastic changes. He has the advantage of coming from the playing side as well as from the coaching side, which could yield useful information and tactics that could be employed to make the team’s bowling stronger.
