KKR’s coach, Gautam Gambhir, recently expressed his opinion on the debate regarding the first-choice wicketkeeper for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He also thinks Rishabh Pant is better than Sanju Samson. Gambhir stated two important reasons behind his adoption of the decision. Hence the illustration of the tactical considerations that guided his choice-making process.
Pant has much more experience than Samson and has played more at the international level, where he can absorb pressure easily.
Batting Positions in the IPL
Gambhir stated that the contrasting batting positions of Pant and Samson in the Indian Premier League (IPL) were a major cause of his choice. He elaborated that while Pant has been mostly playing as a middle-order batsman, Samson has generally taken the top-order spot. This distinction, as Gambhir puts it, makes clear the fact that Pant has to be in the middle order of the Indian team.
Especially given the fact that the top three—Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli—are already there.

Left-Handed Batting Style
Besides, Gambhir also highlighted Pant’s left-handed batting style as a precious asset that could add diversity to India’s middle-order style. He said that Pant’s being a left-hander would be a great addition to the team since it would be a perfect combination of left-hand-right-hand batting with the right-handed batsmen. Thus creating a situation where the opposition bowlers would be unsettled.
Although he preferred Pant, Gambhir too admitted the fact that both Pant and Samson had the quality of their chosen discipline. He proposed that if the team management thought Samson was more adept for the finisher’s position, they could put him in the playing XI. Gambhir underlined the need to adapt to the situations of the game and the precise demands of each match while selecting the players.

Gambhir is backing the Chosen Player
To sum up, Gambhir highlighted the significance of the fact that every player is chosen for the wicketkeeper role. He requested the management of the team and the fans to be supportive and positive towards the player who was chosen, emphasizing the need for patience and encouragement instead of criticism if the player would succeed occasionally.
