Fulham FC Could Sign Promising €20m Arsenal Winger Before Transfer Deadline

Fulham

Fulham finally notched their first win of the 2024/25 Premier League last Saturday against Leicester City 2-1 at Craven Cottage and then managed a resounding win over Birmingham City 2-0 to reach the Carabao Cup round played at St. Andrews, Birmingham, England. Goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Alex Iwobi, Raul Jimenez, and Jay Stanfield set up a fine Marco Silva recovery show after their opening-day home fall to Manchester United. It was their first win in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup.

The win gave Fulham some much-needed encouragement after what seemed like a busy summer in the transfer market as they have made an addition of five players to the squad. The Cottagers, however, reportedly did not stop in trying to land possibly a sixth signing to give more depth to their attack.

Fulham Target Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson

Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is close to completing a summer move to Fulham. The 24-year-old has no doubt been in the works over a move to Craven Cottage before the transfer window slams shut this summer. It’s also been facilitated by the player’s availability and Arsenal’s willingness to let go of him, for whom a figure of up to £20 million has been mooted. It underlines the fact that Fulham has an ambition to turn out a challenging squad for higher echelons in the league by attracting someone of Nelson’s caliber.

Fulham believes Reiss Nelson to be their prime target as they complete the finishing touches on their summer transfer business. The talented winger is the product of the Arsenal Hale End academy and desires more regular playing time, as he has failed to break into the first team at the Gunners. To that effect, he has managed 90 appearances for Arsenal, with eight goals and nine assists to his name. He’s yet to show his full potential mainly due to the limited opportunities presented by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. The Hammers and Leicester are among those who have shown interest in Nelson but moves to either never transpired.

Now it seems he will finally be on the move with interest from Fulham popping up late for the winger as he looks to resurrect his Premier League career. He would join an already exciting list of new signings that includes the talented Emile Smith Rowe, whose goal against Leicester has hit the ground running. The bond between Emile Smith Rowe and Nelson, former teammates at Arsenal, may be decisive in getting Nelson to integrate well into life at Craven Cottage

Signing Reiss Nelson: A Sensible Acquisition?

Fulham

A deal that may see Nelson join Fulham will be a win-win for both the player and the club. Having had little game time with Arsenal, the youngster has shown glimpses of quality whenever on loan assignment; he had a pretty decent season with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga in 2018/19, where he notched seven goals in 23 appearances getting played in rotation, moving both right and left along the frontline.

Last season, Nelson did make a loan move to Feyenoord, where he managed to score four goals and seven assists in 32 matches—service to proving his versatility and attacking talent. If he does eventually secure a move to Craven Cottage, the winger would bring with him plenty of experience from previous campaigns in both the Premier League and Europe. He would also reunite with close friend and former Arsenal teammate Smith Rowe.

Both have played together 21 times for Arsenal and seem innately aware of each other’s moves on the pitch. That might help Nelson acclimatize fast into Marco Silva’s system, perhaps similarly to the success that was experienced by Smith Rowe already at Craven Cottage. For Fulham, this addition only adds to the potency upfront as they inch up through a daunting Premier League season.

Final Thoughts

The 2-1 win against Leicester City and 2-0 win against Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup has been the turning point in Fulham’s season and further underpinned the intentions of building a squad competent enough. Having already brought in five new players, the signing of Reiss Nelson might prove to be a shrewd bit of business as it offers both short and long-term value. This would present Nelson-who is hungry for more regular playing time, the chance to feature alongside familiar faces like Emile Smith Rowe, and he might just turn out to be an inspired signing by manager Marco Silva.

With Nelson on board, it is going to make Fulham’s aspirations of gradually moving up the table all the more plausible, and indeed, opportunities heading their way in the transfer market. It is still not known if they will agree to terms ahead of the transfer window, but the return of Smith Rowe and Nelson to Craven Cottage will surely set Fulham fans abuzz.
