Francesco Bagnaia thinks he was furious after Jorge Martin clinched the MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix sprint. Even when he qualified with a new lap record and took the pole start, poor and an overheated front tire dragged him down in the race. Martin was putting in great performance during the race, thereby increasing his championship advantage over him, who was looking back at the moments when he could have done better and should look forward to the next GP race.
Francesco Bagnaia’s Disappointing Start and Tyre Issues
Francesco Bagnaia struggled with pace throughout the race despite topping Friday practice and starting the sprint in pole position. Jorge Martin overtook him at the start and maintained his lead to the chequered flag. The race winner was former Moto3 world champion and current Moto2 series leader Jorge Martin, who had qualified fourth on the grid.
At the finish of the chequered flag, Martin had further increased the championship margin to twenty-six points with a 1. 495-second advantage over him. Francesco Bagnaia noted that his front tire overheated, causing him to lose grip and preventing him from challenging Martin. He stated:
I was trying in the first laps, but then the front tyre became too hot and I started losing it, he added. So, I didn’t have any chance of overtaking Jorge. He was just faster this afternoon—not faster overall, but he did a better job for sure.

Despite his disappointment, Francesco Bagnaia viewed finishing second as a positive outcome given the difficulties of the Aragon weekend. Bagnaia praised the medium rear tire’s performance from Friday practice but anticipated that some riders might opt for the soft tire. He mentioned;
You can’t push like you want with the medium and need to be more careful in the first laps, he explained.
Francesco is keen to make a better performance and a better strategy for the next race with a vision of clinching a better position and a close fight with Martin to clinch the championship. He is considered to be one of the top racers in the industry, and analysts expect him to overcome the current issue very soon.
Final Thoughts
Starting from a bad position and having tire problems, Francesco Bagnaia was naturally dissatisfied with the result of the Misano sprint. Despite the second position which was important after a difficult Aragon round, he could not seize the chance to beat Quartararo who started from the third position more often after the pole position and this shows that there is still room for improvement.
Regarding the Grand Prix, he plans to adjust his approach and select the best tires to try and at least come closer to Jorge Martin and change his fortune. The next race will be the perfect chance for Francesco to rectify these problems and bring a more determined effort in the title hunt.
