Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik has openly dissented on Babar Azam, the present captain of Pakistan’s white-ball team, after a shocking defeat by the USA in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan was defeated by five runs in the Super Over and could not successfully plunder the 19-run frame set by the co-hosts.
It was Mohammad Amir, the senior pacer, who bowled the Super Over for Pakistan, but it was costly to the tune of 18. Pakistan could not come up with these runs and were all out for a paltry 13, with the only wicket of the Super Over.

He also expressed his belief that Azam learned a lot during the match and said that the player often makes predetermined decisions on the field and not based on the options available on the field. Shoaib Malik explained that strict decision-making by Azam puts mental bluntness on the team and cannot effectively protect the team from fluid challenges.

Speaking of his concern, Shoaib Malik further said that Babar Azam has not displayed any leadership qualities in the last four years, hence his leadership has not improved. He opined that this stagnation is a major concern for Azam in the long run and may be detrimental to the team on offer.
However, Shoaib Malik opined that there have been no improvements in terms of Azam’s captaincy over the years. As the improvement seen from the time when he started his captaincy up to now is negligible.
