Boban Marjanovic will leave the NBA. Marjanovic, 36, reportedly plans to embark on the next chapter of his professional basketball career. Marjanovic is a Serbian center born and raised in Boljevac, Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia. He played for the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets during his nine-year NBA career.
Marjanovic recently signed with Fenerbahce SK of the BSL. Fenerbahce SK is based in Kadikoy, Istanbul, Turkey, while the BSL is the top professional basketball league in Turkey. Read on for further details surrounding the player’s recent signing with Fenerbahce SK.
Boban Marjanovic’s Stint With Dallas Mavericks
Boban Marjanovic’s three-year stint with the Dallas Mavericks from 2019 to 2022 wasn’t for the long term but was somewhat memorable. He signed with the Mavericks on July 23, 2019, following a brief, one-year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Marjanovic’s most memorable moment with the Mavericks was arguably his career-high 31 points, along with 17 rebounds, in the Mavericks’ 113-97 win over the Denver Nuggets on March 11, 2020, aka the final game before the NBA suspended the 2019-2020 season due to COVID-19.
Marjanovic’s NBA Career
Boban Marjanovic’s NBA career spanned nine years with six different teams. After Marjanovic entered the NBA in 2015, he quickly became a fan favorite, thanks to his larger-than-life personality that matched his 7-foot-4 frame and 7-foot-10 wingspan. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game over 331 games. He ended his career with the Houston Rockets in 2024, where he appeared in 14 games and scored 45 points in 2023-24.
Off the court, Marjanovic made cameos in the action movie John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum and the 2022 basketball movie Hustle, produced by LeBron James and Adam Sandler.
His Future With Fenerbahce SK
“When one door closes, another one opens” could describe Boban Marjanovic’s professional basketball career at the moment. Marjanovic ended his NBA career to live and work overseas following his recent signing with the BSL’s Fenerbahce SK in Kadikoy, Istanbul, Turkey. NBA insider Marc Stein announced his signing after confirming it through Excel Sports.
Marjanovic’s stint with Fenerbahce SK remains up in the air regarding his future performance. However, he returned to the BSL on a positive note, as he won MVP in that league for three straight years from 2013 to 2015. He played for KK Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade, Serbia, at the time. Marjanovic leaving the NBA might disappoint the fans, but his future in the BSL appears to be bright for the 36-year-old center.
