The race to sign one of the most coveted midfielders is certainly underway, with Serie A side Monaco providing a hefty salary offer for the talented player, and premier League teams trying to get their foot in the door.

Youssouf Fofana, the talented Monaco midfielder, has thrown the transfer window into a tizzy after announcing that he was leaving his Serie A side this summer during the break. The Italian team was in disarray after learning as such and has tried everything in their power to try and get the promising player to stay at their club for another season.

But is it too little too late? Probably – find out more about where Fofana has his sights set for the 2024-2025 season.

Numerous teams have reached out to Fofana and his agent to offer a lucrative deal that almost certainly sees the young midfielder leave Monaco this summer. The 25-year-old is not even in the prime of his career yet, so purchasing him now would be a favorable deal for most clubs who could get at least 3-4 more years out of him.

PSG in Ligue 1 in France are looking to purchase the midfielder, along with Atletico Madrid in Spanish La Liga, Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League, and AC Milan also in Serie A, like Monaco. Fofana well and truly has his choice of which league he wants to play in for his upcoming season, all dependent on transfer money, release clauses, coaching style, tactical information, and player availability.

Fofana is currently busy preparing for the upcoming international competition in France this summer, the Euro 2024 tournament. If he plays exceptionally well at this tournament, he could even see his value increase for potential teams.

Fofana has made it pretty clear that he wants to leave his current team and go somewhere new after the summer tournament.

‘I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret. We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage. If a move doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay. We agreed that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.’

Although Fofana has stated that he and his club are on good terms concerning him looking elsewhere, the CEO of the club, Scuro, has a different point of view on the situation.

‘There were good opportunities for him to leave last summer. He decided to stay…it was a very good decision for us because he had a very good and consistent season, for him too, as it was probably his best season at Monaco. He is probably one of the players that we are open to selling…it is still too early to make a decision.’

Fofana joined Monaco in Ligue 1 back in 2019, making seven appearances after his transfer to the new club. In the following seasons, he has played more than 32 matches every single year, showing his consistency and longevity in the midfield. In this most recent season, he picked up four goals and four assists, showing how his attacking presence has increased since he joined Monaco five years ago.
