Florida Panthers crush Bruins in Game 3

It was the 14th annual NHLPA Rookie Showcase event that was held in Virginia this year to see all 32 NHL teams rookie prospects. Not every prospect gets an invitation to the event.  This year the Florida Panthers’ new rookie prospect 20-year-old defenseman Mark Alscher. Alscher is the first Florida Panthers represented in the NHLPA Rookie Showcase since 2018.

At the NHLPA Rookie Event, all prospects were excited to be part of the event. With this year being a little more somber with the recent passing of the Gaudreau brothers; their presence was felt in the arena.

The NHLPA Rookie Event is an annual held for the new rookie prospects coming into the NHL. This event is held every year in the summer for the Upper Deck to take photos of the new rookies in NHL uniforms.  The event has gone on for 14 years and the only time it was not held was in 2020-21 due to the COVID pandemic. The last Florida Panther to be represented in this event was forward Henrik Borgstrom in 2018 and Lawson Crouse in 2016.

Mark Alscher is a Czechian native, he was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the 2022 NHL Draft. He was the 93rd pick in the third round. Alscher played in the WHL for the Portland Winterhawks. He had 22 goals, 66 points, and 158 penalty minutes. Alscher is expected to play for the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. The Charlotte Checkers are the Florida Panthers minor league team. Alscher signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Panthers.

The Florida Panthers will be holding their training camp in a couple of weeks and Alscher will be attending camp this season. Alscher was already in two developmental camps for the Panthers. Panther fans will be excited to see practices and the players back out on the ice for hockey season.

Once training camp is over, the Florida Panthers will decide who will go to their AHL league to put together a roster for the upcoming NHL season. Pre-season for the Panthers starts September 22nd and opens the 2024-25 season Oct 2nd against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
