The Florida Panthers have facilities that they use including Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Baptist Health Ice Plex, FTL War Memorial in downtown Fort Lauderdale, and the Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs. The Panthers budget for the new practice facility in Fort Lauderdale was $65 million but it is unknown on how much the Panthers spent on the facility. But it is assumed it was over budget.

The Panthers will have their practices at the Baptist Health IcePlex during the season instead of the Ice Den in Coral Springs. Fans will able to come and watch the Panthers practice throughout the season just as they did in Coral Springs. Not only will fans be able to watch practices but there will be public skating and other programs to get involved in.

“We are thrilled to extend what has been an incomparable long-term partnership with Broward County. The county and our team share a deep commitment to investing in a bright future for our community,” said Florida Panthers Owner, Governor Vincent J. Viola.

The Specifics Of This Agreement

Upon completion of a final agreement, the Panthers will pay an upfront amount of $51.5 million to Broward County to be used for debt service and arena needs. Broward County will pay the Panthers $25 million annually through the tourism development tax, paid predominately by visitors to Broward County, which will be used for capital expenditures, repairs, operations, and maintenance of the 26-year-old Amerant Bank Arena.

National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman said “We’re thrilled to see hockey thriving in South Florida and that their future long-term growth is secured. Perhaps most of all, we are grateful to and thankful for our fans.”

The Florida Panthers will continue to grow and invest in their community through financial grants, support of youth hockey growth, grassroots community projects, and co-branded marketing assistance to Broward County. The Florida Panthers were based in Miami when they first became a franchise in the 1993 season when Wayne Huizenga bought the team. The Panthers played at the Miami Arena in downtown Miami. In 1998, the Florida Panthers moved to Sunrise the arena was called the National Car Rental Center. Now it is known as Amerant Bank Arena.
