Florida Panthers Justin Sourdif To Miss 3-4 Weeks

The Florida Panthers will be without Justin Sourdif to start the season.

Florida Panthers Forward Justin Sourdif will miss an extended time for the Panthers. He is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury. On Tuesday at practice at the Baptist Health IcePlex, Sourdif crashed into the end boards hard. Head Coach Paul Maurice ruled out that Sourdif had a concussion but rather 12 stitches to the face. How long will he be sidelined?

Justin Sourdif was a third-round pick (87th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. Sourdif tallied a career-high 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 58 AHL games with the Charlotte Checkers in 2023-24. The 22-year-old also made his NHL debut and appeared in three games with the Florida Panthers last season.

Maurice weighed on the injury and said, “It’s going to take him three of four weeks, I think, before he’s back in the lineup,” Maurice said. “He went into the boards hard. It looks worse on the video. He’s fortunate it was no head injury.”

Sourdif is expected to start the season with the Florida Panthers AHL team, Charlotte Checkers this season. The Panthers fourth line is up in the air with injuries that have occurred during training camp and preseason games. Maurice says the opportunity is there for the rookies to claim a spot for the fourth line.

Other Injuries

Not only is Sourdif out for 3-4 weeks sustaining a laceration to his face but Forward Mackie Samoskevich who is on track to make his debut on the fourth line this season has an upper-body injury as well. The Florida Panthers also lost forward-centerman Tomas Nosek for a few weeks who is expected to be the centerman for the fourth one this season.

Ahead For The Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes tonight in Raleigh. The Panthers have looked like they haven’t missed a beat since winning the Stanley Cup back in June. The Panthers played a doubleheader in Sunrise this past weekend and beat the Nashville Predators in both games.

The Panthers then headed to Orlando to play the Tampa Bay Lightning and lost but played a hard-fought game that had positive takeaways from the game. Now in Raliegh, the Panthers will look to create chances and build off of what they have done this preseason and training camp. Florida has a little more than a week to lock in before starting their title defense on October 8 against the Boston Bruins.
