The Florida Panthers moved on from General Manager Dale Tallon in 2020 and hired General Manager Bill Zito. Zito has been in the Florida Panthers organization since September 2nd, 2020. Before joining the Panthers, Zito spent seven seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets organization (2013-14 to 2019-2020), serving as assistant general manager for six seasons before his promotion in 2019 to vice president of hockey operations, associate general manager, and alternate governor.
On April 15, 2024, Zito received a multi-year contract extension and was promoted to President of Hockey Operations. From this point on the Florida Panthers have not looked back. They have been in the Stanley Cup playoffs consistently and have been to the Stanley Cup Finals twice in two seasons winning the 2024 Stanley Cup. Zito has made the Florida Panthers one of the top teams if not the best team in the NHL.

As GM Zito brought in Patric Hornqvist and Radko Gudas to change the culture of the locker to hard-working and accountability. As years passed Zito improved the roster by adding pieces such as Sam Bennett, Brandon Montour, and Sam Reinhart. In 2022, Bill Zito made a big move and traded Florida Panthers franchise star Jonathan Huberdeau for Matthew Tkachuk in Calgary. After relieving interim head coach Andrew Brunette and hiring head coach Paul Maurice. Bill Zito has made the Panthers a Stanley Cup champion team with all the trades and draft picks in recent years.
Bill Zito has overall changed the culture of the Florida Panthers, he has had the Panthers in the playoffs consistently each year and at the run of the Cup twice in two years. The Panthers won the Stanley Cup by beating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 this past June. It is the first Stanley Cup the Florida Panthers have won in the 30 years of being a franchise. The Panthers will look to repeat and defend their title as Champions for the upcoming NHL season.
The question in Florida is can Bill Zito and the coaching staff make a dynasty in South Florida? The first thing to do to even think dynasty is win another Cup. But time will tell how it will play out for the Panthers. Nevertheless, it is remarkable what Zito has done to this franchise with years of the Panthers not making the playoffs, losing, and a fan base that was almost giving up hope. The Panthers still have their core players in Sam Reinhart, Alexsander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Varhaeghe, and Sergei Bobrovsky. The upcoming season holds a lot of excitement for sure.
