The No. 6 ranked Florida Gators defeated the best team in the nation on the road earlier today. They defeated the No. 1 Auburn Tigers 90-81. This loss snapped Auburn’s 14-game winning streak. Florida is no stranger to beating the No. 1 team in the nation as they walloped the Tennessee Volunteers 73-43 in Gainesville last month when they held the nation’s top spot.
The Gators are the fifth team in AP poll history to have a home win and road win over AP No. 1 opponents in the same season. Will the Florida Gators be able to keep it going and finish off the regular season on a high note?

It has been a great season thus far for the Gators. They are 20-3(7-3) this year. They are third in an SEC that is as strong as it has ever been. They are also only two games back of Auburn for the top spot in the conference. Florida started the regular season a spectacular 13-0 and has not looked back. All three of their losses have come against some of the best teams in the nation.
Their first loss came on the road against the No. 10 Kentucky Wildcats. Even though they lost, Gators scored 100 points which was the most they have scored all season. Their second loss was handed to them by the Missouri Tigers. Missouri was unranked at the time, but ranked 15th in the most recent AP Poll. The Tennessee Volunteers exacted revenge on the Florida Gators for shellacking them earlier in the season. Florida lost 64-44, their largest loss of the season by a wide margin.
Final Thoughts
The schedule for the Florida Gators does not get much easier as they visit the No. 22 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Tuesday. Florida is looking to advance to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Florida will look to continue playing well and trying to keep pace in a competitive SEC.
