Florida Atlantic University Owls will be taking on Michigan State Spartans in week 1 of the NCAA football opening week. FAU and Michigan ended up 4-8 last season. Michigan State is part of the Big 10 conference and Florida Atlantic is part of the ACC. MSU has a new coach this season Jonathan Smith, he was formerly with Oregon State before coming to Michigan State. Smith will be entering his seventh season as a head coach of a Division 1 college football team. As for Tom Herman, head coach of the Owls, he will be entering the second season as Florida Atlantic coach. The former Texas Longhorn coach will be looking to improve this year.

Zuberi Mobley is the starting running back for the Owls his career over the past three seasons has been up and down. Mobley has played 17 games, 131 rushing attempts, 629 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Mobley’s best year with the Owls was in the 2022 season. Mobley will be looking to improve and bounce back this year from having a subpar performance in 2023.
The starting quarterback for Florida Atlantic University this season is ex-Marshall quarterback Cam Fancher. According to Head Coach Tom Herman, “Fancher had a great spring and summer and has had a good three and a half weeks of fall camp and hasn’t done anything to let go of that spot.” During Fancher’s first season as Marshall’s starter, he threw for 1,558 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions before improving on those numbers as a redshirt sophomore – throwing for 2,162 with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Over his career, Fancher is 11-6 as a starter, winning 10 of his 11 games.
Michigan State
For the Spartans, quarterback Aiden Chiles is the starting quarterback for Michigan State this season. Chiles played for the Oregon State Beavers last season. Chiles is following new Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith. “I talked to Coach Smith, and at the end of the day, I told him, ‘I came to play for you,'” Chiles told ESPN. “‘Wherever you go, that’s where I want to be.'” Chiles played nine games for Oregon State. He was 24 of 34 passing attempts, 68.6% quarterback rating, 309 yards, four touchdowns, and 0 INT. Michigan State is looking for a turnaround season in the upcoming 2024 season with a new coach and quarterback.
Nathan Carter will be the starting running back for Michigan State this season. Carter was also named team captain of the Spartans for the upcoming season. In his first season at MSU, he had 800 rushing yards on 185 carries. He is projected to have a more productive season this 2024 season. With a revamped offense and new coach Carter should be a force this season for the Spartans. He will get his first start this season against Florida Atlantic in the first game of the season at home in Spartan Stadium.
