FIU Quarterback Keyone Jenkins announced his plans last night to leave the program and enter the transfer portal. He has two years of eligibility left and will be one of the most coveted QB prospects in the portal this cycle. He had a great two seasons with the FIU program as he accounted for 41 total touchdowns and nearly 5,000 total yards at the helm for the Panthers.
Jenkins was just named the Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance on Saturday against Middle Tennessee State University in what may have been his swan song with the FIU program. He threw for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 35-24 victory. Jenkins was one the best players in the conference during the regular season as he finished third in Conference USA this season in passing yards with 2,557 and tied for the conference lead in touchdowns with 22. What school will Jenkins be playing for come 2025?

Following their third straight 4-8 campaign, FIU parted ways with Head Football Coach Mike MacIntyre yesterday afternoon. The team has not had a winning season since 2018 and has not qualified for a bowl game since 2019. The program, located in Miami, Florida has a clear link to the Miami Hurricanes program. Former Hurricanes Head Coach Butch Davis coached FIU from 2017-2021 and current Hurricanes Head Coach Mario Cristobal coached the Panthers from 2007-2012.
Final Thoughts
With Jenkins looking to test his skillset against stiffer competition, the FIU program is in flux. They will be tasked with replacing both their head coach and star quarterback this winter. It is unclear which school will have Jenkins on their team next season, but he will be a hot commodity in the transfer portal. Just last season, New Mexico State Quarterback Diego Pavia transferred to the SEC’s Vanderbilt Commodores. Pavia parlayed his Conference USA success into a starting spot for a school in a marquee conference. Jenkins will look to follow a similar blueprint for 2025.
