Fc Porto Agree Deal To Sign Fabio Vieira From Arsenal On Loan Move

Fábio Vieira

Porto have reached an agreement to bring Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira back to the club on loan. Vieira originally joined Arsenal from the 30-time Portuguese champions in July 2022 for a fee of approximately 40 million euros (34.26m euros) and is under contract until 2027.

Despite making 22 Premier League appearances in his debut season, the Portugal youth international has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team. With the arrival of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad and the emergence of Hale End graduate Ethan Nwaneri, Fabio Vieira’s opportunities at the Emirates Stadium would be limited, making a temporary move likely to provide him with consistent playing time.

Fabio Vieira will not be part of Arsenal’s squad for their match against Aston Villa as the club finalizes his loan move to Porto. Although his time at Arsenal was limited, Vieira managed to contribute one goal and three assists in 15 appearances across all competitions last season, and three goals with nine assists in 49 games during his stint in London. His last start for the Gunners, however, was in the Carabao Cup back in November.

After recovering from groin surgery in February, Fabio Vieira managed only 57 minutes in the Premier League and was an unused substitute in 14 of Arsenal’s last 17 games as they finished second to Manchester City. His last start for Arsenal came in the Carabao Cup last November. Although he participated in Arsenal’s pre-season activities, he was not involved in their opening weekend victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers

Nwaneri was allowed to impress and is considered the best Hale End product since Bukayo Saka, with the potential to surpass him. It seems Arteta is not planning to loan the teenager out for first-team experience but instead is ready to give him playing time in the Premier League and Champions League this season. Merino is expected to join from Real Sociedad for around 30 million euros, though his profile differs from that of Smith Rowe and Vieira. If Arteta decides against signing a direct replacement for those players, we can anticipate seeing Nwaneri play a significant role in the 2024/25 season.

Fábio Vieira At Fc Porto

Fabio Vieira began his career at Porto, progressing through their academy before making his senior debut in 2020. He went on to score 10 goals and provide 18 assists in 76 appearances for the club. He has represented Portugal at various youth levels, from under-18 to under-21, but has yet to earn a senior cap.

Negotiations between the two clubs are in advanced stages for a straightforward loan deal that doesn’t include an option or obligation to buy. Vieira is poised to become the latest player to leave Arsenal this summer, following the departures of Emile Smith Rowe, Cédric, Mohamed Elneny, Nuno Tavares, and Albert Lokonga. Meanwhile,  According to ESPN striker Eddie Nketiah is nearing a transfer to Nottingham Forest.
