Another big blow for the FAU Owls as Center Vlad Goldin has just entered the transfer portal. Goldin was a key piece to the Final Four team from a year ago and averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game this past season. This continues what has been a disappointing offseason for the Owls, starting with Coach Dusty May leaving for Michigan last week.
Landing Spots for Goldin?
Right after seeing this headline today, you’d have to think there is a high probability Goldin will follow Dusty May to Michigan. Michigan is going through its own rebuild after the firing of Coach Juwan Howard before hiring May. Goldin has already transferred to a Dusty May-led team before when he left Texas Tech after his freshman year to go to the FAU Owls.
If not Michigan, Goldin is expected to still want to get back to a power conference. A team in the Big 12, Big Ten, Sec, ACC, or Big East is what is most likely. He is going to be a hot commodity across the country so the ball will be in his court. Keep an eye on new coaches in power conferences (Stanford, Louisville, Ohio State, DePaul, West Virginia, etc) to be very aggressive to land him.

What’s next for the FAU Owls?
A year ago today, the FAU Owls were playing in the final four. Even after that heartbreaking loss to San Diego State, May signed an extension and virtually every player decided to come back. This year, the Owls racked up 25 wins and were ranked in the AP top 25 for most of the season. It resulted in another NCAA tournament appearance but ended with a loss in the 1st round to Northwestern.
Flash forward to today, and now the Owls are without Dusty May with him leaving for Michigan, Goldin is in the transfer portal, and likely more to follow suit. FAU hired Baylor Assistant John Jaikus as their head coach last week and he is going to have his hands full restructuring this roster. But the good news for Jaikus and the FAU Owls is there are still many transfer options out there that they can snag.
