Everton Captain Signs New Contract Extension Till June 2025

Everton have a few worries on their plate at the moment – new players coming into the team, players deciding to go elsewhere, and ending up in a higher spot in the English football table than they did last year.

But one thing they don’t have to worry about is if their captain is going to stay at the club. The Everton man in charge while on the pitch has decided to sign a new contract with the Toffees to put fans’ minds at ease and help Everton be in contention for a top-five finish next year in the Premier League.

The Everton captain, Coleman, has made a huge statement by signing a new contract with the club. Everton chatted with Seamus Coleman about penning a new deal that sees him stay with the club for at least one more year until June, 2025. Part of the reason could be because he wants to look elsewhere after this season, or the other part could be due to the fact that he is not getting any younger.

Coleman is 35-years-old, which is ‘very old’ in footballing terms. Many footballers retire in their young 30s, or even late 20’s, depending on their current fitness level and injury history. Coleman was a ‘maybe’ for if he was going to re-sign for the club based on his physical consistency and mental capacity to captain the club for another year – but now all fans can breathe a sigh of relief as he signs on to captain the team during this 16t season at the club.

And if anybody knows anything about this selfless captain, it is that he loves his club.

‘I’m just really happy to extend my time here. I’m going to cherish and enjoy every moment. I still feel I can do a job for this football club on and off the pitch. I wouldn’t have signed another contract if I didn’t feel capable of contributing to the team.’

During Seamus’ time at the club, he has made an astounding 364 appearances since his first game back in 2009. Prior to going to the Premier League, he played for Sligo Rovers in the Irish league, making 56 appearances for Sligo between 2006 and 2009. His consistency in the back line and his commanding leadership made him a target for Everton back in 2009 – and he hasn’t gone elsewhere ever since.

Seamus also made 72 appearances for his international team after his first call up in 2011, earning the spot of Ireland captain in 2016 and playing in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament and in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Everton Looking Forward

Everton FC had a rough go in the Premier League last year, ending up in 15th place just one point ahead of Brentford and eight points ahead of Nottingham Forest. They ended the year with 13 wins in 38 matches played, leaving them at the very bottom of the ladder. This year, they hope to do much better with the likes of Coleman staying on as a captain to help guide them to the top.

Everton will hope to beat out other similar teams in the league, like Wolves and Fulham, to creep into the top ten at the beginning of the year. If they utilize players like Beto, Onana, Calvert-Lewin, Harrison, and Gueye, we have no doubt they can score more goals this season.
