Cleveland Cavaliers Forward Evan Mobley had a first quarter for the ages this afternoon on the road against the Charlotte Hornets. Mobley scored 23 points in the first quarter and hit a career-high five three-pointers in the game’s opening stanza. His performance helped the Cavaliers jump out to a commanding 40-18 first quarter lead.
He finished a career-high with 41 points this afternoon. He added 10 boards and went 6-of-8 shooting from downtown. His six made threes set a new career-high as well. Mobley’s performance today was the driving force behind Cleveland’s 116-102 victory. He is not known as a three-point shooter as the big guy was shooting 34.8% from deep entering this afternoon’s contest. Mobley is still one of the best interior threats in the league as he is 17th in the league in rebounds and 11th in the NBA in blocks. Will the big man be able to carry his momentum from today’s game into the upcoming games?

Final Thoughts
Today’s victory improved Cleveland’s record to 21-3 on the year. They are 1.5 games clear of the Boston Celtics for the NBA’s best record. First-year Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach Kenny Atkinson has staked his claim as the early favorite for NBA Coach of the Year. Today’s game was the second half of a back-to-back for Cleveland as the Cavaliers visit the Miami Heat tomorrow night.
Following their game against the Heat, the Cavaliers get four days off before hosting the Washington Wizards on December 13. Cleveland hopes that Mobley’s performance will be a harbinger of things to come as the team looks to keep up their great regular season start and make a deep playoff run.
