Euros 2024: 5 Players to watch

Euros 2024

We are in the month of the Euros! The Euro 2024 starts on the 14th of June and promises to be electrifying. Top players from all the top European nations are fighting to see who becomes the champion. This Euros is special for a lot of reasons. One, it might be the last time we see the likes of Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo internationally. Two, we are witnessing the emergence of so many young talents.

The Euros have always been a breeding ground for talent. In the 2004 Euros, we saw the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney come to life. While in 2008, we saw Luka Modric take off. This year, I hope to see a mix of young and old players who will transform this tournament. Without further ado, here are Five players to look out for in the upcoming Euros.

5 Players to Watch in the Euros

Toni Kroos

There is no player in the entire Euros like Toni Kroos. He is a dying breed, the last deep-lying playmaker. This is also his last international competition, as he is set to retire as soon as the tournament is concluded. Toni Kroos retiring from club and country means this is the last time we see a master playing at the highest level. I can’t wait to see how he finishes this tournament with a 95% pass accuracy.

Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal is the most talented to come out of La Masia since Messi, and Spain’s most talented youngster since Iniesta. The young man has been compared to the likes of Robben and Di Maria, but with a two-footedness, the players didn’t possess. I can’t wait to see what Spain does with him and how he will dazzle at the Euros. I guess that he will be the player of the tournament.

Arda Guler

Another prodigious youngster on this list. Arda Guler plays for Real Madrid and has been regarded as the next best thing since the invention of Kebabs. While he hasn’t played a lot this season due to injuries, the few games he started have been dazzling. The young man is one for the history books and I can’t wait to see him make history this Euros.

Xavi Simons

While I find the coach of the Netherlands to be unfit, he does have a squad of so much talent. One of those talents is La Masia graduate, Xavi Simons. For the longest time, I waited for Xavi Simons to blossom, and he finally did. At RB Leipzig, the diminutive giant has been essential in helping them win and I hope he can carry that form to the Euros.

Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer needs to start for England in the Euros, I don’t know how Southgate wants to do it, but he must start. Cole Palmer has been Europe’s most electrifying youngster and has also been a goal and assist machine for Chelsea. At the age of 21, Cole Palmer is one for the future and a player who is on the cusp of greatness.
