The standard name for the European Championship Cup is called the Henri Delaunay Cup. It was named after a French football administrator.
A man named Henri Delaunay initiated the idea of a possible European Championship in the year 1927. However, Henri Delaunay had passed away 5 years earlier. The trophy was now conceived in respect to the French man.

During the preparation of the tournament in 1960, Pierre Delaunay, son of Henri took charge of designing the trophy. Pierre Delaunay also became the competition’s visionary. This he was able to do after succeeding his Father as the UEFA general secretary.
A silversmith named Chobillion helped in fulling Delaunay’s idea, by crafting the sparkling silverware. A newer version of the trophy was revealed in the 2008 European Championship. However, its classic style was still maintained.
