The long-awaited Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament is finally out. We have seen nail-biting games, intense thrillers, last-minute goals, shocking eliminations, and boring matches that have ended in penalty kicks or extra time. After numerous weeks of countries surprising their fans, players living up to expectations or falling short, and Spain claiming the victory, the ultimate starting eleven and subs bench has been named for this prestigious competition.
Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament
There is debate over who should be chosen, but many sources claim that there are a few players who are shoo-ins for any person’s selection.
When it comes to the back line, many pundits and analysts have chosen Marc Cucurella. He was criticized before the final game by English pundits but stepped up in times of need and showed why he was such a key player for Chelsea and why he is a full-time member of the backline for Spain. He had numerous attacking sequence involvements throughout the tournament and played 546 minutes, the third-most among the best defenders in the UEFA Euro competition.
Another defender that many can agree on is Kimmich, the talented German defender who creates tons of chances with crosses into the box. Not only can he stop an attack, but he created almost the most chances out of anyone in the tournament, bested only by the younger Yamal, and played more than 15 passes that broke the opposing line’s defense and had them on their heels.
The third defender that many claimed was among the best of the best was Manuel Akanji, a player in the English league who also made the Premier League team of the season. He is a Swiss international who played every minute of this tournament, showing his longevity and consistency on the pitch.
In the midfield, Toni Kroos has to be chosen. The German international who officially retired after this tournament showed why he was among the best in the world as a defensive midfielder, playing deep passes and completing 324 passes in the group stage – the most of any player ever to play in the Euros tournament.
Another midfielder who made the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament, of course, Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old wasn’t just impressive for a teenager, it was among the best of the best no matter what age he is. He created the semi-final goal for his country and scored for his country, making him the youngest goal scorer at the Euros or World Cup.
For attackers, Nico Williams, the left winger who is still only just 22 years old, stood out among the crowd. He complimented Yamal on the other wing nicely and created the highest expected assists of any player in the competition, along with completing nearly 40 take-ons with a 1v1 battle with his defender.
When it comes to prolific strikers, Gakpo isn’t the first name that comes to mind — but he surely deserves a spot on the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament. He added a goal and an assist in the last 16, led his country for shots and shots on target, and created ten chances throughout all games.
Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament Miss-Outs
Some big names were left out of the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament, which we wouldn’t have guessed beforehand. Phil Foden for England and Harry Kane, the Bayern striker, don’t deserve to be on this list. Also, Bellingham, the La Liga Player of the Year, had an average few games.
So, do you think the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament is accurate?
