The Euros are shaping up to be one of the most exciting tournaments of the entire year. Euro 2024 has shown us some of the brightest young stars in the footballing world, veterans who have put their teams on their backs, and nail-biting games that see unknown teams go through and beat some of the ‘best’ sides in the world.
Even teams like England have struggled against underdogs, only narrowly beating Switzerland in penalty kicks. Other teams, like France, have had to persevere with one of their stars, Mbappe, breaking his nose in the first game.
Who will make it through the semi-finals to the coveted final match to win the Euro 2024 trophy? Check it out.
Spain vs. France
One of the most anticipated games in the Euro 2024 semis coming up is the France vs. Spain game. Both countries are widely lauded as two of the best sides in the entire footballing world, including underage teams and women’s sides. In every tournament, fans, pundits, coaches, and players expect these two countries to make it to at least the semifinals based on their current roster and playing record.
Now, Spain face off against France in a match that is sure to be one of the most entertaining of the entire summer. Spain has a slight advantage in terms of stats and past games, with the country winning almost 40% of the games in online match predictor and bedding odds. One of the main reasons that Spain has come out as the slim favorites is due to Mbappe’s lack of form in this tournament.
Plus, Spain is the only team in the Euro 2024 competition that has won all live matches so far in the tournament. However, they have big shoes to fill — no side in the tournament has ever won six times in a row, meaning they will make history if they beat France to continue to the final game of the Euros.
Some players to watch for the Spanish side include the young player, Yamal, who is one of the most creative and technically gifted players in the world at the moment. He has created 14 chances in all games so far this tournament, the most of his side, and has stood out as one of the top players — despite being just a teenager.
On the other hand, France has had a disappointing tournament so far, but has still made it to the semifinals against all odds. They have failed to impress in every single one of their matches, winning on penalties against Portugal and only scoring four times in the opening five matches of the tournament.
One of the main reasons for the country’s lack of form has been Mbappe’s inability to score for his side in the Euro 2024 tournament, scoring just one goal for a penalty against Poland in the third match. France has a 0.08 xG per shot in their last five games, which is extremely low for a side of this caliber.
England vs. Netherlands
The other game to tune into for the semifinals is the England vs. Netherlands match, featuring big-name stars like Bukayo Saka (the arguable MVP of the Switzerland game), Jude Blleingham, Harry Kane, and Xavi Simons.
England has momentum now after winning the tense, nail-biting match against the Swiss, but they need to play more consistently and score more goals during open play. On the other side of the field, the Netherlands reached their first semi-final in two decades, having narrowly escaped their group and beaten an inspiring Turkish side.
