The Manchester United coach has fired back at Alan Shearer’s analysis of Marcus Rashford’s display this season. Erik Ten Hag regarded the analysis as “stupid”.

Marcus Rashford, who is 26, hasn’t been able to score a goal so far this season. He was substituted early in the 65th minute during the Brighton game. Eventually, Man United lost 2-1 due to a late-minute Joao Pedro’s goal.

Alan Shearer, who was analyzing Rashford’s form on the match day after the 2-1 loss to Brighton, said: “He’s had two games this season, Marcus Rashford, and he’s not had one shot at goal.

“Fifty-seven goals they [Manchester United] scored last season. That was the worst in the top half. Ruud van Nistelrooy has been brought in there. He’s going to have to work his magic somehow.”

Erik Ten Hag’s Response

Ten Hag was asked about his view on Sherear’s criticism in his conference ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool. The Dutchman said, “Everyone gets criticism from you guys. It doesn’t matter what we are doing, if we are winning or if we are losing. ”

“If I take a player off, the conclusion is I was not happy with him. But I was very happy with Rashy in pre-season, against Fulham [in the opening game] and also against Brighton. I didn’t take him off because his performances or level were not right – no, we had to rotate because we have good players on the bench who bring new energy.

Erik Ten Hag Addresses further: “There will be rotation. Then, there is the conclusion the player is not performing. It can be sometimes, but it wasn’t in this case. In this case, it was a stupid analysis by the pundit.”

What’s Ahead for Man United

Manchester United will host Liverpool in their next game on Sunday. It’ll be a very difficult fixture for the Red Devils. It seems that Liverpool is more of a solid team than that of Erik Ten Hag. However United will fancy their chances as they are at home, and they have the quality enough to hurt the Merseyside team. However, all this will lean on the fact that if they can keep the blistering Liverpool attack away.
