Enzo Maresca has spoken ahead of the Chelsea EFL cup clash against Barrow. The Italian spoke about a certain star and many others who might have a chance of getting some playing time during the game. The Chelsea team is presently stacked with multitudes of talented players. However, Enzo Maresca had tried to pick his own choice out of the number. He eventually did, but the unpicked players failed to secure clubs to play for during the Summer Transfer window. So far Maresca has promised to involve some of them in this season’s campaign.
Chelsea so far this season has been in an impressive form rise. The start of the season was slow as they saw themselves stumbling to the defending Champions, however, so far they’ve been able to rise from the loss of important wins, and so far they are 5th on the league table. With the Carabao Cup tie looming ahead Maresca will desire his side to maintain its form.

The Italian has given his word concerning the squad’s fringe players. This is especially on Ben Chilwell, who claims to be in the squad. Maresca believes they’ll get some important minutes in Chelsea’s clash against Barrow. He said: “They [the likes of Chilwell, Chukwuemeka, George and Acheampong] are going to be the ones who will be in the squad [vs Barrow]. Some we will see if they start, but if not they will all be on the bench and hopefully, we can give them some [minutes].”
He also continued about the fringe players, he said: “It would be a chance to give them [fringe players] some minutes. It’s the same way we have done in the Conference League. Hopefully, it can be a good chance for them to show a little bit of themselves.”
On Lavia and Gusto
The Italian also spoke about Gusto and Lavia who have been struggling with fitness since the season started. They’ve both been inconsistent in terms of availability this season. Maresca believes Gusto should be ready for the Barrow clash, while Lavia set for their Premier League tie against Brighton. He said: “Malo is available for tomorrow. Romeo is not. Hopefully, he can be available for Brighton.”
He also added: “It’s dangerous because football is full of these [supposed] ‘easy’ games. At this moment, it’s the worst game for us. We need to take it seriously. We can’t allow ourselves to drop.”
Maresca continued to talk about his players. He dropped a strong hint that Drewsbury Hall might be on the starting lineup in the tie against Barrow. He said: “Probably [he will start]. We have a session today. I like to tell the players [before you]. I’m very happy with him. We need to understand Kiernan was the main player at Leicester, he’s not here. For any player, you need to adapt.”
What’s Ahead for Chelsea
Chelsea is expected to face Barrow in the EFL Cup clash. The Blues who have been in scintillating form, will hope to continue such form against the Championship side. Enzo Maresca will fancy his chances of winning a domestic league trophy for his team. A pursuit of the Premier League looks complicated and may be harder for them as it stands. However, a league cup alongside the conference League will be a good start for him in the club.
