The English Premier League has provided yet another thrilling piece of entertaining season in soccer, leaving to its true expectation as the best league in the entire world. Filled with amazing goals, spectacular dribbles, mouthwatering performances, Knee-breaking tackles, and unforgettable moments leaving rent-free in our memories. As the season came to a close end, the floodlights turned to the out-of-this-world performers who delighted the fans with their prowess and helped the team achieve greater heights.
The current season of the English Premier League has brought together eight players who have done wonders in their respective teams to warrant them a chance to win the prestigious Player of the Year award. Without further ado let’s jump straight into the list of the eight nominees.
English Premier League Nominees
Phil Foden (Man City)
The 23-year-old English midfielder has been phenomenal for Manchester City, showcasing his, skills, agility, and ability (pun intended). Scoring 16 goals and eight assists under his belt, Foden has been Vital in Pep Guardiola’s chase for another title. This will be the fourth consecutive English Premier League title. His ability to dribble past a defender with ease and unleash a thunderbolt of a strike earned him a 24-goal contribution so far this season.
Erling Haaland (Man City)
Haaland the previous winner of the award has taken the English Premier League by storm. His outstanding knack in front of goal has seen him on top of the goal-scoring standing and he is due to win the Golden Boot award for the most scored goals in a season. Due to injuries and whatnot, he has only managed to play 28 games but scored a total of 25 goals averaging an unbelievable one-goal contribution in every match. Ever since coming to the English Premier League, the Norwegian striker has led Manchester City’s attack with his lethal finishing with surgical precision.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
The Swedish striker has been another outstanding player in the English Premier League. While his team Newcastle United, has not been able to hit the ground running, Alexander has been firing from all cylinders. In his first season in the league, he has managed to garner 20 goals and one assist in 27 matches. If it wasn’t for the injuries that side-lined him he would be competing with Halaand for the Golden Boot. His impressive minutes-per-goal ratio and clinical finishing make him a formidable contender for the award.
Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
The Arsenal’s captain, Odegaard has been at the forefront leading by example, leading the pack in pressing opponent teams when defending, and showcasing his creative abilities while attacking. We cannot brush off his prominence in the Gunner’s title charge second year in a row. The Norwegian midfielder has contributed eight goals, and eight assists, and created 94 chances, establishing himself as one of the league’s most creative midfielders.
Odegaard’s leadership on and off the pitch has been instrumental in Arsenal’s resurgence in this season of the English Premier League.
Cole Palmer (Chelsea)
The 22-year-old English forward has enjoyed a remarkable debut season in a Chelsea shirt, from leaving Manchester City he has hit the ground running. He has been the sole carrier of the shitty blues all season, evidently so with 21 goals and nine assists, Palmer has written his name in Chelsea’s record books, matching the feats of club legends Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard. During the just concluded Chelsea Awards he scooped the Best player of the season. Will he manage to also win this award?
Declan Rice (Arsenal)
The 100 million signing for West Ham has left to the expectation of that price tag. Ever Since joining Arsenal Rice has naturally adapted to the Emirates outfit, evolving into an agile box-to-box midfielder under the steward of Mikel Arteta. With seven goals, eight assists, 79 tackles, and 43 interceptions, Rice has been a driving force in Arsenal’s title charge. His all-round contributions make him a deserving candidate for the Player of the Season award.
Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
The big Dutch center-back has rediscovered his best performance this season in the English Premier League. With a concrete defensive form in his game, a strong sense of awareness, and the ability to read the game he has two goals, two assists, and eight clean sheets, van Dijk has been a defensive pillar for Jurgen Klopp’s side. His leadership and defensive prowess make him the only defender in contention for the award.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
The Aston Villa striker has been on the radar of top European clubs due to his formidable eye for goal in the English Premier League. With 19 goals and 12 assists, Watkins has the most goal contribution of any player in the league. His ability to find the back of the net and create goal-scoring chances for his teammates makes him a standout candidate for the award.
