The three Lions announced their international squad on March 14th. The squad for the fixtures against Brazil and Belgium will undergo some changes. Some players will debut for England, while others will be retained from their previous tournaments.
The Squad for England’s National Team
In the squad, Jordan Pickford, Sam Johnstone, and Aaron Ramsdale will be retained as goalkeepers. However, the defensive side of the squad contains Ben Chilwell, Lewis Dunk, Harry Maguire, John Stones, and Kyle Walker. Ezri Konsa and Jarrad Branthwaite will be debuting for the national team. In addition to that Joe Gomez will be returning to the squad after a very long time since 2020.
There are 5 midfielders in the squad. Gareth Southgate will eye Jude Bellingham as the midfielder’s presence strengthens the lineup. Alongside Conor Gallagher, Jordan Henderson, James Maddison. Moreover, Declan Rice has received the callup from England’s manager.
In the forward lineup, there are 9 players. Jarrod Bowen, Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins. Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer will be playing their first game for England. The England captain Harry Kane will be returning to the squad and leading them to the front.
Is Gareth Southgate Overusing Jordan Henderson?
The 33-year-old Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson has 47 caps for England. His country has also seen him as a leadership model. Jordan Henderson has been on different occasions for the country. He has played 3 World Cups, and 2 Euros.
But somehow, because several players missed out on the squad. There are several players like Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, and, James Ward Prowse. Therefore, they could be the potential replacement for Jordan Henderson.
Who Missed Out On the Squad
There are no exceptions that some players missed out on the squad, during the call-up. Because some of them are making a comeback from injuries. Trent Alexander Arnold has been an excellent addition to the English squad. As his crosses have more chances for a striker to score. Alongside his shooting technique, he will be missed.
Ben White, Tammy Abraham, Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho, and Keiran Trippier deserved to be in the squad, as they have been in a blast this season. Somehow they didn’t make it to the squad as they have been replaced by the youngsters. And in some cases, few of them rejected the offer.
