England Star Duo Back Team To Win T20 World Cup Title

Despite being ruled out of the squad, Tammy Beaumont and Kate Cross of England believe the side can win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024. England has dominated in the run-up to the tournament, defeating Pakistan, India, and New Zealand twice, except for a drawn series against Ireland earlier in the month.

Their greatest victory most likely occurred in the Women’s Ashes T20Is, where they defeated Australia 2-1 following the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023. Despite Cross’s absence, England will field a potent bowling assault at the UAE event, with Sophie Ecclestone spearheading the spin unit, which is anticipated to be crucial given the circumstances. For the first time since winning the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup in 2009, England is aiming for the championship.

Kate Cross Confident in England

With several experienced players on the team, Beaumont thinks their presence could benefit the younger players. The roster is also rich in experience. Kate observed that England can beat any team on their best day. Kate Cross stated, “I believe that last summer’s Ashes was a pretty accurate representation of who we are at our finest. The girls have been well-prepared, having arrived in the United Arab Emirates for nearly 10 days. There’s still a few games and days before the first game but I’m sure they’ll go into it full of confidence.”

While Cross was ruled out, England has a powerful bowling attack for the coming event in the UAE, with Sophie Ecclestone leading the spin department, which is considered to be crucial in these circumstances. England, captained by Heather Knight, enters the competition having reached the semifinals in the previous two years. They have only won once since the tournament’s beginning in 2009, whereas Australia, the six-time winners, are the current champions following their victory in South Africa last year.

Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

Scotland, who are making their tournament debut, will play Bangladesh at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, October 3. The semi-finals are slated to take place in Dubai and Sharjah on October 17 and 18, respectively. The event runs from October 3 to October 20. The championship game will begin on Sunday, October 20 in Dubai.

Ten teams are involved, divided into two groups of five: Group A and Group B. Along with the initial hosts (Bangladesh; more on that below). The top six teams from the previous year’s competition—Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Indies—automatically qualified for this year’s. Pakistan has also managed to move up to the number-one spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings.

The ICC 2024 Women’s World Cup Qualifier, which was held in April and May, decided the final two spots. The 10 participating teams were divided into two groups of five, much like in the actual tournament, and the two finalists, Scotland and Sri Lanka advanced. Each club will play each of the other four teams in their group once during the round-robin group stage. Thereafter, the top two groups’ teams will move on to the semifinals.
