English cricketer Brydon Carse faces a three-month ban for breaching cricket’s betting rules. The fast bowler, who has played in 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is, placed bets on 303 cricket matches between 2017 and 2019, though none involved his team. 

While Carse admitted the charges and cooperated with the investigation, these bets violated regulations that prohibit professional cricket personnel from wagering on any cricket event worldwide.

Brydon Carse has been banned from playing for three months for breaching the betting rules sometime in the past. Carse who has featured in 14 one-day internationals and three T20 internationals was charged with betting on 303 different games of cricket between the years 2017 and 2019 Carse did not bet on any game involving his team.

The betting integrity rules of cricket state that no professional cricketer, coach, or any member of related team staff is permitted to place bets on any cricket event anywhere globally. Carse had 16 16-month ban suspended for two years but will have three months on active suspension outlined to start on May 28 until August 28, 2024.

The 28-year-old will now be out of a prospective Test debut for England in the anticipated July home series against West Indies, making the first international game that he will be eligible to play in the Test match against Sri Lanka fixed for August 29.  The Cricket Regulator concluded that Carse admitted the charges, presented full cooperation with the investigation, and the man “has shown a great deal of contrition for his wrongdoing”.

Carse: I want to extend my deepest apologies to the person involved and I am willing to take full responsibility for what I have done. Writing on Durham’s website, Carse – who was drafted into England’s 50-over World Cup squad last autumn – said: >Even though, I made these bets several years ago, there is no justification for that and I fully understand the seriousness of my mistake.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the ECB, Durham Cricket, and the PCA, now I know what it feels like to be in a tough spot. “On the field, I will make sure to respond to that support in the next 12 weeks when can run back on the pitch again,” he responds.

Dave Lewis, interim director of the Cricket Regulator, said: ‘The Cricket Regulator views any violation of any integrity or misconduct rules gravely and I want any participant who is involved in gambling on cricket from the professional game to come forward without waiting to be identified’.

This is not to mention the Cricket Regulator can apply to facilitate resolution and that the Cricket Regulator understands the many obstacles participants can experience and will approach cases with patience, and kindness and accommodate anyone who wants to come forward.

”We also like to see any participant having welfare issues approach the PCA or alike professional help if they so wish.” An ECB spokesperson said: ‘We consider such matters very sensitive and have no tolerance to any form of breaching anti-corruption measures in cricket.
