Zak Crawley, England Test opener, has agreed to a contract extension with his county side, Kent, that will last until the end of the 2025 season. The 26-year-old Kent academy graduate debuted in 2017 and has made 147 appearances for the county, scoring over 6,000 runs. That included ten centuries, the most recent being a 238 against Somerset in a Vitality County Championship encounter in May. Zak Crawley is ready to return to the England team later this month after being nominated to the touring squad for the three-Test series in Pakistan.

Zak Crawley is Excited for Kent

After breaking his finger in the third Test win over the West Indies at Edgbaston, the Kent batsman missed the series against Sri Lanka at the end of the summer and was replaced at the top of the order by Dan Lawrence. The 26-year-old  Zak Crawley said, “I love playing for my county, so it was easy to stay another year. I’m excited to be accessible for Kent as often as possible next year and to put on shows in a variety of styles while donning the White Horse.

Simon Cook, Kent’s director of cricket, stated: “When he’s available, Zak boosts our top-order hitting and, of course, is a terrific role model for our young hitters, even though he’s only 26.” Crawley’s statistics appeared unremarkable when he was called up for England’s Test tour of New Zealand at the age of 21, with three first-class hundreds to his name.

But Zak Crawley had many high-profile fans who believed that his ability against the short ball and genuine pace would allow him to thrive at the international level. That secured him a long stint in the side, but he was dropped the following summer after scoring just one half-century in his next 14 innings. He was recalled three Tests into a terrible Ashes tour, making an eye-catching 77 in Sydney, before ultimately reaching his second century in a high-scoring tie in Antigua in early 2022.

England’s Tour Pakistan

Despite Zak Crawley’s terrible start under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes’ leadership – he averaged 23 in the summer of 2022, frequently getting caught behind or in the slips while driving – he was retained and instructed to “chase moments” by McCullum, who saw similarities to his own game in Crawley—a stunning century in Rawalpindi at more than a run per ball bought him some time.

But Zak Crawley remained under pressure heading into the Ashes as the runs dried up in New Zealand. England’s tour of Pakistan begins with the first Test on Monday in Multan. The three-Test tour begins in Multan with the first Test, which will be held from October 7 to 11. According to a revised schedule, the second Test will be held in Multan from October 15 to 19. The third Test will be held at Rawalpindi from October 24-28.

Final Thoughts

With his latest contract extension with Kent, Zak Crawley has made it clear that he will remain with the county through the completion of the 2025 campaign. With nearly 6,000 runs scored for Kent, the 26-year-old Test opener is keen to keep helping the squad. Crawley has demonstrated resiliency despite prior injuries and England’s uneven performance. Crawley will play a critical part in England’s preparation for their forthcoming Test series in Pakistan and their chances of winning.
