Has England or Spain ever won this tournament in the past? Well, England has never done it — in fact, they have never won a championship in Europe. They reached the final of the European Championships in 2021 but lost dramatically to the Italian side in a penalty kick shootout that would see Saka become the face of ridicule in the nation. Now, he is the hero.

On the other hand, Spain has three Euro wins in their history, tied for the best record with Germany (the host country). Spain last won the Euros in 2012, and last came close in 2021, losing to Italy in the semi-final game that would have seen them face off against England.

England vs. Spain – Who is the Favorite?

Now that we are just mere hours away from the final, the question is — who is favored to win? England or Spain? Based on the current performance in the tournament, we would say that Spain is the clear favorite. They have been playing better and more consistently throughout the games, featuring star boy Lamine Yamal who has seriously impressed, and Marc Cucurella, the stalwart defender.

Other key players for Spain include the tough alkaline that makes it so hard to score against them, including Robin Le Normand, Cucurella, Laporte, and Carvajal, all of whom play for incredible club teams like Real Madrid and Chelsea. Although they lack speed, so they may struggle to keep up with Spain, they are strong in the air and good with the ball at their feet.

In the middle of the park, Rodri, Fabian Ruiz, and Olmo have to work in tandem to get the ball to their front three. Although they lost Pedri, which was a huge blow, they are still playing well due to Rodri winning the ball in the defensive areas of the midfield.

On the other hand, England has a few stand-out players who need to play at their best to see their team succeed. Bellingham is the La Liga Player of the Year who would be great to have on the pitch, whereas Ollie Watkins was the surprising hero of the last game scoring in the dying seconds of the match.

For the defensive line, England struggles more than Spain — Trippier is injured with a groin pull, Luke Shaw has a long history of consistent injuries, and John Stones needs to be at his best to see their team succeed. Stones and Walker are the two who need to anchor the defensive line to stop goals from going in the net.

In the midfield for England, Mainoo, Rice, and Bellingham are the key players for their team, linking to the front three and cutting passes through the opposing team to get close to the goal. Bellingham will have to step up and play better in the final if he hopes to see his team bring home the Euros 2024 trophy.
