Emma Raducanu marked a significant step on her comeback journey. Despite the hard battle she went through in Seoul, she finally secured her first win since the end of July. The Brit overcame her American rival, Peyton Stearns in the match that lasted for almost three hours. Raducanu, former US Open champion, wrapped up a 7-5 (4), 7-6 (5) win.

After a devastating loss in the US Open first round, Emma Raducanu started a new beginning at the Korea Open. Her challenging match against Peyton Stearns was a testament to Raducanu’s resilience and determination. This is her first victory since she beat the same player in Washington at the end of July.

That win was the only victory Emma Raducanu had with her only tournament in August being the US Open. The 21-year-old had a very short quest there, losing to Sofia Kenin in the opening round. Raducanu expressed her pride in overcoming the obstacles she faced. She admitted that the humid conditions in Seoul made it more difficult to maintain her usual level of play.

Raducanu also admitted that her loose schedule last month affected her. The match was characterized by numerous breaks of serve and intense rallies. She made a positive start after an emotional and tearful defeat at Flushing Meadows.

Significant Step In Raducanu’s Comeback Journey

Raducanu’s first victory helped her rebuild her confidence and form after a series of setbacks. Her performance against Stearns demonstrated not only her technical skills but also her mental toughness. She will need those qualities during this tournament – and her full schedule for the end of the season.

Next, Emma Raducanu is set to face China’s Yue Yuan. She and the World No. 40 Yuan have never played each other in competitions. Raducanu is also scheduled to play in the Hong Kong Tennis Open which will start on September 23.

Another Positive Step

Emma Raducanu had stated it clearly. She now prefers working with familiar faces to bring out the best in her. This included her relationship with her junior coach Nick Cavaday. Raducanu started working with Cavaday at the end of last year when she was recovering from surgery.

Although some struggles arose from her disappointing result at the US Open, Raducanu and her old team have learned from their mistakes. She has indicated she plans to play several tournaments to push her back into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings. She has climbed to No. 60 after her win over Stearns. A couple more wins will set her to break the top 50 barrier.
