Once a Gunner, not always a Gunner. Emile Smith Rowe has always been an Arsenal player, but it seems as though he might not be for much longer. Arsenal did very well in the Premier League last season, hanging in first place for a couple of weeks before Man City came back and took their rightful spot away from the London club.
However, Arsenal might be getting rid of one of their most talented attackers. But why? Well, we aren’t quite sure. But we do know that Emile Smith Rowe might be headed to another London team before the 2024-2025 Premier League season begins.
Emile Smith Rowe to Leave Arsenal
Emile Smith Rowe maybe didn’t get the playing time he wanted, disagreed with Arteta over positioning or tactics, or just wanted to try something different. No matter the reason, Emilie Smith Rowe is just one step away from finalizing his deal with another club in the Prem — Fulham. Many think this is a very surprising move, as he was once considered one of the brightest young stars in the league. Arsenal did very well last season, with the likes of Saka and Martinelli performing extremely well for the squad. However, Fulham was further down the ladder, bringing into question why the Arsenal player would make the move for a lesser team.
At just 23 years old, he could be wanting more consistent playing time. He played less than 350 minutes in the Premier League last season and might need more consistent for-steam experience so he can develop his skills and increase his price tag once more. He only started three times in the 2023-2024 season, with injuries, lack of form, and low confidence hindering his play.
Arteta even said that Emile Smith Rowe will likely be out of the pre-season matches for Arsenal currently as they head into the last few weeks before the next campaign begins. “There are things happening in the background at the moment,” he said. “We decided the best thing to do was to keep him away from the game today.”Arteta will have to find another attacker and midfielder to fill Smith Rowe’s shoes (boots) if he does leave. Or, maybe Arteta can work his magic and convince the always-a-Gunner to stay and give his boyhood club one more chance.
Emile Smith Rowe Stats
Emile Smith Row is a 23-year-old Londoner who started his youth career at Arsenal. He has been at the Gunners since age 10 through the youth academies, progressing to the full senior squad when he was just 18 years old. Since then, he has made 80 appearances for the club. He also had successful loan spells at RB Leipzig in 2019 as a teenager and at Huddersfield Town at 20 years old.
Now, he might be headed to Fulham. But, will Emile Smith Rowe benefit from another move? We’re not quite sure. Fulham ended the last Premier League season in 13th place, which is far off the mark from where Arsenal finished in second place. They earned just 47 points on the season in 38 matches, only securing 13th place by one point above Wolverhampton Wanderers. Fulham scored 55 goals this season and let in 61, earning a goal differential of -6. They need to score more goals if they want to get on the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, and City, all of whom scored more than 85 goals last season.
Emile Smith Rowe will have to link up well with the other Fulham attackers, like Traore, Jimenez, and Willian if he hopes to break into the starting eleven. One thing is for sure – he will have to earn his spot in the lineup if he hopes to get more playing time this season.
