‘Optional fight’ Organic boxing aspirant, Edgar Berlanga, holds a record of 22-1 (17 KOs) and has disclosed to media that he still has one battle on the contract with Matchroom. He said he could decide to take his bow and go without that final fight but he has not fully decided on that yet. His primary objective is to get a fight with Jaime Munguia who is signed under Top Rank. Thus, Berlanga cannot hope to fight Munguia before December of 2024 because after that Munguia is scheduled to face Ronald Gavil again.
Edgar Berlanga’s Future Options
Speaking to Sway’s Universe about his promotional situation, Edgar Berlanga is currently with Matchroom, although he still has an opportunity to be in the ring for the box. He has to prove himself this time in the ring and shall have a dominant victory to remain in the Matchroom.
Although Edgar Berlanga chose to throw down for the last time with Matchroom, his promoter, Eddie Hearn has not mentioned possible opponents. He opined that Edgar Berlanga might be an easy fight in New York or Puerto Rico. However, he is reluctant to take on Caleb Plant, because they are seeking those who can bring PPV revenue and Munguia fits the bill.
Possible Matchups
According to Hearn, he would like to bring Edgar Berlanga against Diego Pacheco, however, this fight might not interest him since it is high stakes, low reward. Again, much of the boing world is not familiar with Pacheco, and a loss might be detrimental to Berlanga’s career. If Edgar Berlanga stays with Matchroom, then a better fight for him would be Trevor McCumby who, although lost in his fight against Caleb Plant, gave a good account of himself.
However, there is always certain danger even in the fight against McCumby: the latter is a tough and strong-witted boxer. Lastly, Edgar Berlanga’s choice about his last fight and what is next for him in boxing depends on factors like opponents or contracts. It remains to be seen where in the world of boxing Edgar Berlanga plans on steering his career in the near and distant future.
