Eddie Hearn Reveals William Zepeda’s Next Fight and Future Plans

William Zepeda

The Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said that William Zepeda, the lightweight contender, will no longer be fighting George Kambosos Jr. However, Zepeda is expected to defend his title against Tevin Farmer (33-6-1, 8 KOs) later this year, according to reports. This fight will be interesting and it’s going to be held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia later this year. William Zepeda switched his opponent because of that, while Hearn said Zepeda would not be able to fight through November because his wife was pregnant.

Tevin Farmer vs William Zepeda: Recent Performances

Tevin Farmer last competed on July 13th where he suffered a ten-round unified decision to Raymond Muratalla in Vegas. Farmer impressed by outboxing Muratalla in several rounds, even though Muratalla was younger and stronger. This was proved by the recent performance of Farmer in a match showing that he is still a fierce fighter even at his age and after his loss to Joseph Diaz in July 2020.

Lately, Hearn opined that whereas a fight between William Zepeda and Farmer seems like a step backward, it could be good. He thought that Shakur Stevenson, even though the younger fighter, did not possess the experience in dealing with high-pressure opponents like Zepeda, and advised him to choose his next opponent more carefully.

Hearn opined that Stevenson should not engage in a bruising battle with William Zepeda until he can face Gervonta Davis in 2025. The fight with Zepeda can become provocative and challenging for Stevenson and therefore it is possible to get an unfavorable outcome.

Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) had recently joined the Matchroom room, who had joined Matchroom recently. Because Stevenson cannot face William Zepeda as was previously anticipated, Hearn has enlisted the services of Joe Cordina to fight Stevenson on 12th October. Cordina on his part lost in the eighth round last May and has never competed in the 135lb division thus, many consider him a less interesting test for Stevenson. This has raising controversy among boxing fans and they disapproved of them because they think the decision does not suit Stevenson.

That is why Hearn is prefer to enable Stevenson to have the last two fights for Matchroom and then concentrate on the desired fight against Davis. As mentioned above, if Stevenson can secure the Tank fight as part of the bargain, it will be a major achievement in his career. However, Hearn will be required to handle Stevenson’s next fights keenly to minimize hurdles and capitalize on opportunities.

In Conclusion

All in all, changes in the affiliation map have created some peculiarities within the lightweight division. The upcoming William Zepeda’s fight against Tevin Farmer, not George Kambosos Jr. , will be held in Riyadh; this battle is rather promising. Losing the preceding round, Farmer still managed to show how capable he was in the confrontation with Raymond Muratalla.
