Eagles Must Overcome Obstacles Before Bucs Clash

Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are about to take part in what likely will be one of the season’s toughest games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but this team does have a couple of things that hold it back. Several key players are not available due to injury, and heavy rain impacted this week’s practice. Let’s look into some ways the Eagles might succeed despite these obstacles.

A Peek at Practice

The rain in South Philadelphia forced the Eagles to move inside for their practice, making for more of a walkthrough than a full practice. That’s not ideal, but the coaching staff will make the most of the time they have. Keeping players sharp and ready for Sunday’s game remains the focus.

Losing Brown and Smith would mean that other guys would have to step up. Guys like Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, the young rookie, and maybe Parris Campbell from the practice squad could get more reps in this game. Great opportunity for the guys to step up and make a play. Lane Johnson was stretching during the very brief media portion of practice, which is a good indication he might be moving through the concussion protocol. His return would be a huge help to the Eagles. Having an All-Pro tackle helps solidify the offensive line and protect that quarterback.

Defensive Stars on the Field

On the defensive side, cornerback Darius Slay returned to practice fully. For the Eagles’ secondary, his experience and skills are very vital. He can key in shutting down the Buccaneers’ passing attack, especially in this very crucial matchup. In the NFL, the “next man up” is of extreme relevance. The Eagles had all these ingredients before and still came out on top. This season, they will play with Fred Johnson, replacing Johnson, right tackle. As long as this mentality is maintained, so will the team be kept keen and prepared to change.

Head coach Nick Sirianni and his assistants will have to adjust their game plan from what was drafted last week to the players available. Evidently, they will have to rely more on the running game to take pressure off those backup receivers. The team needs to have a good running game to help control the clock and keep the Buccaneers’ offense off the field.

Building Team Chemistry

These challenges will also give the team a chance to build chemistry. Players who have not had such extensive playing time will acquire much-needed experience. This can pay later in the season as everyone gets acclimated to one another.

In a nutshell, the Eagles are very much handicapped without these stars. However, they are looking forward to the test. The depth of the roster, the spirit of the players, and the quality of coaching will be important. And as the Eagles are about to clash with the Buccaneers, all must look to hold out hope. The Eagles are bound to battle well and assert their victory despite what challenges come their way.
