Eagles’ Edge Rushers Aim for Impactful Showdown vs. Bucs

The Eagles are hoping to play an important game next against the Buccaneers. Having seen them rebound from a great win over the New Orleans Saints, the work of the Eagles’ edge rushers must be in the center. To wit, they will need a statement game and their very first sack of the season. Let’s break this down into what it means for the team and how they can come out on top.

Solid Showing vs. the Saints

The last game against the Saints was a good showing by the Eagles’ defense. For instance, both Jordan Carter and Jordan Davis played well. Carter recorded high grades, and Davis played like the big-time back he was drafted for. For the whole game, pressure was on quarterback Derek Carr, which indeed spelled out a very difficult day for the Saints’ offense.

With the overall nice play, though, the edge rushers for the Eagles are still seeking their first sack. Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham applied pressure but could not bring down Carr. Meanwhile, bad games limit Bryce Huff’s playing time; fans are already waiting for Nolan Smith to get on the field. The defense has managed just four sacks in four games. The number needs to get bigger before the Eagles can say they are an effective unit.

The Opportunity Against the Bucs

The Eagles finally get an opportunity coming off of a week where the Buccaneers surrendered seven sacks to the Denver Broncos. It all boils down to whether or not the edge rushers of the Eagles can seize that opportunity to spearhead breaking or making a game-changing performance. The Buccaneer offensive line has been worse for much time, and this is just what the Eagles will need to exploit in such weakness.

However, Philadelphia also faces issues. Right tackle Lane Johnson is in concussion protocol, which brings some degree of uncertainty into what the offensive scheme may be. If they do go out there and move well, this will create a tremendous opportunity for the edge rushers, especially if the Eagles are allowed to get out early because it’s going to force the Buccaneers to do more throwing, and the more they throw, the better their opportunities are for sacks.

A Chance to Change the Narrative

The Eagles have found this hunger to change the narrative. Well, the bye week is coming, but for now, they can look forward to changing the script in this game against the Bucs. A few sacks will heighten that sense of confidence in those players, and they will shine brighter on the field. Fans would love to see how much those edge rushers end up helping seal a win.

Then, finally, a first sack might be what edge rushers need in the game against the Eagles. On the one hand, a strong performance would help the team but would also improve morale heading into the bye week. The fans should be happy as they prepare to cheer their Eagles to a huge statement on the field. We’ll see if they rise to this occasion!
