Bayer Leverkusen recently won their first Bundesliga title and Xabi Alonso is taking no chances, for he is already fortifying his team for the next season to defend the title. Aleix Garcia, who plays for Girona, is at the top of Alonso’s list of new players.
Garcia started his career at Villareal, later joining Manchester City, where he stayed there for 5 years before joining Dinamo Bucharest in 2020. In 2021, he decided to move to Girona where he has shined as a midfielder.
Barcelona was also eyeing Garcia, but it seems Leverkusen beat them in the race to sign him. West Ham also attempted to sign the Spanish player as Julen Lopetegui wants to strengthen his midfield. They even made an offer of €14M for the player.
But it seems Aleix Garcia’s choice is Bayer Leverkusen.

Fabrizio Romano reported on his official X account that Bayer Leverkusen and Aleix Garcia have reached a verbal agreement. The deal will be worth €18M.
The 26-year-old played a key role in Girona qualifying for the Champions League after finishing third in La Liga. He scored three goals, and six assists in 40 game appearances. He has an exit clause of €15m on his contract.
His exemplary performance at Girona in the past season is what has brought much attention to him. At Leverkusen, he will strengthen the midfield which currently is made up of Granit Xhaka, Robert Andrich, and Exequiel Palacios.

Why did Xabi Alonso Choose Aleix García?
https://gty.im/2154224343
To begin with, Alonso has an eye for talent, bearing in mind he was also a talented player. So he is always quick to take in new, talented players as long as the club allows him.
In this case, Alonso wanted to sign Garcia because he was confident that he could craft him to be a gem in the world of international football and help Leverkusen sustain the level they have achieved in Germany and Europe.
One of the main reasons why Alonso is sure he can help Garcia become better on the field is he was also a midfielder, and he used to make pretty good passes during his glory days. Garcia has a pretty good passing ability; long passes to be specific.
Also, he easily switches play. Currently, he has completed 70 switch plays; his passes go 40 yards or more across the width of the pitch.
And the fact that he has been consistently improving his play from a point of deep-lying position to having calculated long passes. The deep-lying play-making is something that he is still working on and that is what enabled him to score goals in the last season.
