Drew McIntyre Defeats CM Punk at Summerslam 2024

Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Summerslam 2024

Drew McIntyre faced off against CM Punk in CM Punk’s first one-on-one televised match since returning to WWE. This feud has been going on for months and Seth “Freaking” Rollins was the special guest referee for this match. Drew McIntyre was able to secure the win in this match and this was arguably the most hyped match on all of the Summerslam 2024 card. Let’s take a deeper dive into the results and what this means going forward.

What does Drew McIntyre winning mean going forward?

Drew McIntyre winning this match seemingly was the right choice but the match itself was a bit of a disappointment. There was a lot of hype heading into Summerslam 2024 but it did feel like the blow-off match that this feud should have had. A lot of the match was tied into CM Punk’s bracelet and that just felt way too childish for a massive feud that saw Drew McIntyre quit WWE Raw, CM Punk get bloodied in Chicago, and so much more. The crowd was invested into this match, even after seeing Bron Breakker and LA Knight become new champions in their respective matches in the two matches before this one.

However, the storytelling was very WWE to its core but the match saw CM Punk get distracted as Seth Rollins was wearing the bracelet. Punk seemingly was his own worst enemy as he was paranoid about Seth Rollins not calling the match right. This match seemingly built more towards a CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins match rather than focusing on the rivalry that Drew McIntyre had with CM Punk. There just seem to be a lot of question marks surrounding the match as Drew McIntyre walked away with the bracelet as well.

They can continue to build this towards WWE Bash at Berlin for a rematch between Punk and McIntyre but this does not feel like a definitive victory for Drew McIntyre. At the end of the day, this was the right outcome as having McIntyre secure the win was certainly the right choice.

What happens for WWE Bash at Berlin 2024?

WWE has a lot of options heading towards WWE Bash at Berlin 2024 on August 31. There are a few schools of thought as they can have Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk in a rematch or a triple threat including Seth Rollins, as he was involved in the story the last few weeks and that bad blood (no pun intended) is still there. While there is still some options, it would feel a little off to not have any of these three men involved in the match with four weeks remaining between Summerslam 2024 and Bash at Berlin 2024.

Having an actual no disqualification match, which a triple threat match ultimately is, would be a lot better than a traditional match with how this feud has been built. Save the one-on-one match with a stipulation between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre for Bad Blood, preferably inside a Hell in the Cell match. If they do not want to include Rollins at Badd Blood, they can realistically position him into a feud with either Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship or even have him gunning for the World Heavyweight Championship, the title he lost at Wrestlemania 40.

There are multiple options for Drew McIntyre, CM Punk and Seth Rollins to go coming out of this match but it seems like with another Premium Live Event in August that they will remain connected to one another.
