The New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye has done well to begin their Week 9 game against the New York Jets. However, their quarterback suffered a concussion as he has left the game and been replaced by backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Drake Maye has been ruled out for the remainder of this game and it will be interesting to see if he is forced to miss extended time. Let’s take a closer look at what happened and what we currently know about his availability.
Drake Maye Questionable to Return
The New England Patriots are looking at this season as a rebuilding year and the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft has looked well since taking over as the starting quarterback. However, Drake Maye is officially ruled out as he suffered a head injury and is being evaluated. The injury occurred during the second quarter against the New York Jets as he scrambled for 18 yards but was hit in the head by linebacker Jamien Sherwood. Drake Maye would stay in the game for the remainder of the drive but would not come out for the next drive.
Maye would be replaced by Jacoby Brissett and coach Jerod Mayo announced during his halftime interview that Maye will be out for the remainder of the game. Drake Maye has gone 3-of-6 for 23 yards as well as three rushing attempts for 46 yards (15.3 yards per carry) and secured his first career rushing touchdown. This creates a major question mark for the New England Patriots as Brissett has not looked good under center throughout the season before he was benched.
