In a recent interview, he spoke about Maye’s competitive nature.

Drake Maye has had to have a competitive nature since he was a small child. He is the youngest of four boys, and every one of them has been a sports star. Maye has had to be competitive and his former head coach Mack Brown spoke very highly of his character.
“If his mom and dad would let me, I’d adopt him. He is a great person. He’s competitive. He’s grown up in an athletic family. His mom was a college athlete. His dad was the leading passer in the ACC. He’s got two brothers that won national championships — one in baseball at Florida, one at basketball here.
He’s got another brother that was on our basketball team. He’s the youngest of four, so he’s been beaten up. He had to fight to get a chicken leg at the table. He’s so competitive in everything he does. He’s smart. He’s got pride. He is so passionate about football that he does everything right in his life to make sure that he is going to play the best he can play.”
In the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, players try to jockey for positions and convince teams they are the right pick. Leadership and competitiveness are often desirable qualities for NFL teams, and Drake Maye hopes this will convince a team to take him.
Fascinating Draft
This is one of the most fascinating NFL Drafts in recent memory. Any time there are multiple high-level quarterbacks, it is an interesting draft. Drake Maye is one that could fall in the draft, leading to an unexpected team acquiring him. Outside of the quarterback position, there are many talented wide receivers and offensive linemen. There are teams that could trade up and trade back.
