The Miami Dolphins season opener ended spectacularly following a slew of highlights from both sides of the ball. After falling down 17-7 heading into halftime, doubt was sewn for the game before a late rally.

The Dolphins entered the game under unique circumstances. Superstar Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police for a traffic violation outside of Hard Rock Stadium before the matchup. However, it did not appear to mess with Hill’s game.

Dolphins Start Slow In Season Opener

In a flash the Dolphins found themselves trailing by two possessions in the first half of their week one matchup versus the Jags. Unable to stay ahead of the sticks, the Dolphins offense failed to set up the defense.

Running Back Devon Achane kept the game within striking distance with his efforts on the ground, including a one-yard touchdown tout. However, the Dolphins offense struggled outside of that in the first half.

“We just needed to get our head out of our (butt),” said Tagovailoa, who gave an impassioned halftime address, calling out the team with Miami down 17-7. “That was it. That was it.”

Defense and Tyreek Hill Turn The Tide In Second Half

The week one matchup looked completely in control of the away team Jaguars. They were up 17-7 with the ball in the red zone following a 14-yard reception by Brian Thomas Jr. against Jalen Ramsey. The momentum shifted when the Jags failed to get the ball in the end zone thanks to a Jevon Holland punch out on the goal line against Running Back Travis Etienne.

The touchback following the fumble put Hill within striking distance. Hill found the ball on a 25-yard crossing route in stride via Tua Tagovaloa’s precise arm, and the speedster legged out the rest. The 80-yard touchdown reception put the Dolphins within three points of the Jaguars going into the fourth quarter. Hill and Jaylen Waddle totaled 239 yards combined in the season opener.

The fourth quarter was headlined by Dolphins Kicker Jason Sanders. Sanders nailed a short field goal early in the fourth to tie the game up late. The Miami Dolphins put their defense on display and sacked Trevor Lawrence with Emmanuel Ogbah and Jaelen Phillips. With the game on the line, Jason Sanders was given a 52-yard attempt to walk out of the stadium with a win. Sanders delivered and sent fans at Hard Rock Stadium home happy.

Dolphins Next Matchup

The Dolphins’ next game will keep them in Miami to take on the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills. The Bills will be coming off a thrilling comeback of their own against the Cardinals. Given their hot week 1 and storied rivalry, the game is slated to be entertaining.
